PpHYH is responsible for light-induced anthocyanin accumulation in fruit peel of Prunus persica

Lei Zhao et al.

Summary: This study reports the role of an elongated hypocotyl 5-homolog gene, PpHYH, in regulating anthocyanin pigmentation in peach fruit peel. Light is a key factor affecting anthocyanin accumulation in peach fruit peel. PpHYH activates the transcription of three PpMYB10 genes and interacts with a cofactor PpBBX4 encoding a B-BOX protein, leading to anthocyanin accumulation in the sun-exposed peel. However, a negative regulator, PpCOP1, represses the activity of PpHYH, resulting in failure of anthocyanin accumulation in the shaded peel.

Two loss-of-function alleles of the glutathione S-transferase (GST) gene cause anthocyanin deficiency in flower and fruit skin of peach (Prunus persica)

Zhenhua Lu et al.

Summary: The study identified a genetic locus responsible for white flower color in peach, which shows pleiotropic effects with non-white-flowered types. The locus was mapped on chromosome 3 using bulked segregant analysis and further fine-mapped using F-2 individuals and BC1S1 population. A GST gene, Pp3G013600, was found to be associated with white flower color due to loss-of-function alleles, which was validated in 128 peach accessions. Silencing of Pp3G013600 confirmed its role in reducing anthocyanin accumulation in peach fruit, providing valuable information for peach breeding programs.
