Transcription factor BES1 interacts with HSFA1 to promote heat stress resistance of plants

Pablo Albertos et al.

Summary: Heat stress is a significant environmental stress that can hinder plant growth and development. A study has shown that brassinosteroids (BRs) play a role in the heat stress response in plants and interact with heat shock transcription factors (HSFs) to enhance their activity. These findings expand our understanding of the plant's heat stress response and highlight the involvement of BES1 in heat stress signaling.

The interplay of auxin and brassinosteroid signaling tunes root growth under low and different nitrogen forms

Loitongbam Lorinda Devi et al.

Summary: The signaling interaction between auxin and brassinosteroids (BRs) is crucial for root elongation under low nitrogen conditions. Low nitrogen promotes auxin transport activity, which in turn enhances root elongation. High auxin levels inhibit BR signaling, but BR signaling from root vasculature can promote cell elongation and root growth under low nitrogen conditions. The effects of different nitrogen forms on root growth depend on the balance of BR and auxin signaling activity. Ammonium represses BR signaling and auxin response, while nitrate promotes root elongation through BR signaling.

NIN-like protein 7 transcription factor is a plant nitrate sensor

Kun-Hsiang Liu et al.

Summary: Nitrate is a crucial nutrient and signaling molecule for plant growth. This study identified NLP7 as the primary nitrate sensor in plants, which regulates metabolic and growth responses upon nitrate perception. The use of a fluorescent split biosensor allowed visualization of single-cell nitrate dynamics in planta. Further analyses revealed that NLP7's nitrate sensor domain resembles that of a bacterial nitrate sensor, NreA.

Abscisic acid signaling negatively regulates nitrate uptake via phosphorylation of NRT1.1 by SnRK2s in Arabidopsis

Hang Su et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the important role of ABA signaling components, particularly SnRK2 proteins, in root foraging and nitrate uptake in Arabidopsis thaliana under nitrogen deficiency. SnRK2 proteins interact with and phosphorylate the nitrate transceptor NRT1.1, leading to decreased nitrate uptake and impaired root growth. The identification of a previously unknown functional site on NRT1.1 provides new insights into how plants regulate growth under nitrogen deficiency via ABA signaling.

Enhanced NRT1.1/NPF6.3 expression in shoots improves growth under nitrogen deficiency stress in Arabidopsis

Yasuhito Sakuraba et al.

Summary: The study identified an association between polymorphisms in the promoter of the NRT1.1/NPF6.3 gene and varying degrees of nitrogen deficiency responses in Arabidopsis shoots. Enhanced expression of NRT1.1 in shoots, rather than roots, was found to be responsible for improved growth under nitrogen deficient conditions.

GTPase ROP6 negatively modulates phosphate deficiency through inhibition of PHT1;1 and PHT1;4 in Arabidopsis thaliana

Huiling Gao et al.

Summary: The study found that under phosphate-deficient conditions, the ROP6 protein is rapidly degraded through the ubiquitin/26S proteasome pathway, leading to an obvious inhibition of its activity. In vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrated that ROP6 physically interacts with and inhibits the key phosphate uptake transporters PHT1;1 and PHT1;4.

Local auxin biosynthesis acts downstream of brassinosteroids to trigger root foraging for nitrogen

Zhongtao Jia et al.

Summary: Flowering plants elongate their lateral roots under mild nitrogen deficiency to enhance nutrient acquisition. The natural variation of this response depends on local auxin biosynthesis acting downstream of brassinosteroids to determine lateral root extension.
