Thiobencarb resistance mechanism is distinct from CYP81A-based cross-resistance in late watergrass (Echinochloa phyllopogon)

Nina Gracel Dimaano et al.

Summary: The genetic and molecular basis of resistance evolution in weeds to multiple herbicides, including those with unknown resistance mechanisms, was investigated in this study. A population of late watergrass was found to exhibit resistance to 15 herbicides, some of which were previously unknown. The resistance mechanism was found to be a combination of multiple factors, including cytochrome P450s and other unidentified non-target site mechanisms.

Emergence and early growth of multiple herbicide-resistant and -susceptible late watergrass (Echinochloa phyllopogon)

Whitney B. Brim-DeForest et al.

Summary: The study found that resistant plants had significantly higher emergence rates under the intermittent flush treatment, while emergence decreased with increasing burial depth. Using the Gompertz growth curve, resistant plants showed faster predicted growth rates and shorter time to maximum growth rate under continuous flooding and daily flush treatments, while susceptible plants had higher growth rates and shorter time to maximum growth rate under the intermittent flush treatment.

Target-Site Mutations and Expression of ALS Gene Copies Vary According to Echinochloa Species

Silvia Panozzo et al.

Summary: Understanding the diversity of polyploid Echinochloa spp. resistant to ALS inhibitors in Italian rice fields is crucial for resistance management. Molecular characterization revealed the presence of specific ALS gene mutations in E. crus-galli and E. oryzicola, contributing to their high herbicide resistance levels.

Different Mutations Providing Target Site Resistance to ALS- and ACCase-Inhibiting Herbicides in Echinochloa spp. from Rice Fields

Ignacio Amaro-Blanco et al.

Summary: The study found that resistance of Echinochloa spp. in rice fields in Spain to ALS and ACCase inhibitors is mainly caused by mutations such as Pro197Ser and Ile1781Leu. It is necessary to implement an integrated control system combining chemical and non-chemical tools to combat this resistance.
