Efficient moment method for modeling nanoporous evaporation

Thomas C. De Fraja et al.

Summary: Thin-film-based nanoporous membrane technologies use evaporation to cool microscale and nanoscale electronic devices. Traditional macroscopic approaches are less accurate at these scales, so higher-order moment methods are used. This study compares different methods and develops a computationally efficient method that provides accurate simulation capabilities.

Two-dimensional kinetic evaporation by direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) with independently controlled downstream boundary conditions

Ran Li et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the kinetic evaporation of liquids in a two-dimensional geometry using direct simulation Monte Carlo and theoretical analysis. The study demonstrates the possibility of independently controlling downstream vapor pressure and temperature in the two-dimensional configuration. It is found that with increasing domain size, the evaporation mass flux becomes constant and the downstream vapor exhibits a uniform pressure distribution.

Improved heat dissipation performance of nano-porous wicking evaporator by structural modification: A numerical study

Ran Li et al.

Summary: This paper proposes novel modifications to the structure of a nano-porous evaporator to enhance its dry-out heat flux and heat transfer coefficient simultaneously. Numerical simulations show that the evaporative thermal resistance and pressure drop in microchannels play a dominant role in determining the evaporator performance. The structure with a partially shortened membrane of 10 μm length exhibits the best heat dissipation performance.

Theoretical and numerical study of nanoporous evaporation with receded liquid surface: effect of Knudsen number

Ran Li et al.

Summary: This study conducted a semi-empirical analysis on nanoporous evaporation with receded liquid surface, considering the influence of the Knudsen number, and revealed that the vapor flow resistance in the nanopore accounted for over 90% of the total resistance. As the Knudsen number increased, the pressure ratio gradually decreased, indicating relatively higher evaporation resistance in free molecular regimes.

Mean-field kinetic theory analysis of vapor flow between evaporating and condensing interfaces in the presence of non-condensable gas molecules

Kotaro Ohashi et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the vapor kinetic boundary condition in the presence of a non-condensable gas at a non-equilibrium liquid interface through numerical simulations. The results showed that the evaporation and condensation coefficients depend on the number density of the non-condensable gas at the liquid interface, and the coefficients obtained for the equilibrium state can be utilized in the analysis of a non-equilibrium state.
