Morphed inception of dynamic Leidenfrost regime in colloidal dispersion droplets

Gudlavalleti V. V. S. Vara Prasad et al.

Summary: This study reports that the addition of Al2O3 nanoparticles to water significantly increases the onset of dynamic Leidenfrost temperature (T-DL) and suppresses the overall Leidenfrost phenomenon on a heated substrate. The onset of T-DL delays with increasing nanoparticle concentration but decreases with an increase in impact Weber number. Colloid droplets exhibit vigorous spraying behavior due to nanoparticulate residue deposition and the residue changes the boiling behavior, preventing bubble coalescence and vapor layer formation. Scaling analysis of T-DL with impact Weber number explores the thermo-hydrodynamic behavior of impacting colloid droplets.

How surface roughness promotes or suppresses drop splash

Haixiang Zhang et al.

Summary: This work presents an experimental study on the splashing behaviors of drops impinging on rough solid surfaces. It is found that the increase in surface roughness can promote splash of low-viscosity drops but suppress splash of high-viscosity drops. The splash regime can be classified into corona splash and prompt splash, and the increase in surface roughness can promote the prompt splash but suppress the corona splash.

Numerical investigation of droplet impact on heated surfaces with pillars

Yunjie Xu et al.

Summary: This work proposes an improved three-dimensional double multiple relaxation time lattice Boltzmann model that accurately recovers the macroscopic temperature equation. The model is used to simulate the impact of a droplet on a heated surface with pillars and analyze the effects of pillar width and distance between pillars. The results show four boiling droplet types, and provide insights into their characteristics and transitions.

Experimental study of two-phase heat transfer of droplet impact on liquid film

Minle Bao et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of droplets on a thin liquid film with boiling bubbles to understand the fundamentals of spray cooling. The results show that the steady stage plays a significant role in the cooling process, and the cooling effect increases with larger droplet diameter and impact velocity.

Dynamics of droplet impact on a superhydrophobic disk

Sara Moghtadernejad et al.

Summary: An experimental study investigates the impact of tangential velocity on the dynamics of a water droplet on a spinning superhydrophobic surface. The results show that increasing tangential velocity causes the droplet to spread asymmetrically. Three behaviors are observed depending on impact and tangential velocities: bouncing, symmetrical splashing, and asymmetrical splashing.

Effects of High Gamma Doses on the Structural Stability of Metal-Organic Frameworks

Chao Ma et al.

Summary: Four different MOFs were exposed to gamma rays, and the study found that MIL-100 (Cr) and MIL-100 (Fe) exhibited excellent radiation stability, while MIL-101 (Cr) showed good stability up to 4 MGy but degraded with higher doses. The AlFu MOFs showed poor radiation stability.

Droplet impact on sparse hydrophobic pillar surface: Impact phenomena, spreading mode, and droplet breakup

Xin Zhou et al.

Summary: In this study, the droplet impact dynamics on a sparse hydrophobic pillar surface were numerically investigated. The spreading patterns and impact locations were found to strongly influence the droplet breakup dynamics, resulting in the emission of secondary droplets. This research provides valuable insights for the design of functional surfaces and fluidic-based systems.

Supersonically sprayed transparent flexible multifunctional composites for self-cleaning, anti-icing, anti-fogging, and anti-bacterial applications

Chanwoo Park et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated the fabrication of transparent flexible thin glass films with antibacterial, superhydrophilic, and anti-fog properties using supersonic aerosol deposition. Superhydrophobicity and anti-frost characteristics were achieved by spraying a polystyrene solution onto the glass film. The multifunctional films showed high transparency and bacterial inhibition rates, making them promising for reducing bacterial transmission.

Chanwoo Park et al.

Summary: Hierarchically structured ZnO nanowires were fabricated via electrospraying and chemical bath deposition for pool boiling applications, showing an enhancement in critical heat flux and effective heat transfer coefficient while promoting efficient boiling process. The study revealed that ZnO nanowires exhibited good surface wettability and the combination of bare and coated surfaces achieved optimal pool boiling conditions.

Rapid droplet spreading on a hot substrate

Yongpan Cheng et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of temperature on droplet spreading on a hot substrate through both experiments and numerical simulations. It is found that increasing substrate temperature leads to changes in droplet spreading behavior, including transition from first-stage pinch-off to second-stage pinch-off and then to no pinch-off during fast spreading. Additionally, temperature influences dynamics at different scales, such as altering dynamic wetting angle, viscosity near droplet interfaces, and surface tension.
