Relativistic Hydrodynamics: A Singulant Perspective

Michal P. Heller et al.

Summary: This study investigates the use of Dingle's singulants to gain analytic control over the large-order behavior of hydrodynamic gradient expansion in nonlinear flows. The researchers discover a duality between singulant dynamics and a certain linear response theory problem.

Jet quenching and medium response in high-energy heavy-ion collisions: a review

Shanshan Cao et al.

Summary: This study reviews recent progress in using jet quenching as a hard probe to study the properties of the quark-gluon plasma in high-energy heavy-ion collisions. Special emphasis is given to the effects of jet-induced medium response on experimental observables and their implications for extracting transport properties of the QGP.

Collective flow in single-hit QCD kinetic theory

Aleksi Kurkela et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the collective behavior in small systems and calculates the harmonic flow response to initial geometry deformations using weakly coupled QCD kinetic theory. A parametric scaling formula is derived to relate harmonic flow in different size systems with generic initial gluon distributions. The study also compares the full QCD effective kinetic theory with previous toy models. Finally, the centrality dependence of integrated elliptic flow v(2) is calculated in various collision systems.

The smallest fluid on Earth

Bjorn Schenke

Summary: High energy heavy ion collisions create quark gluon plasmas that behave like almost perfect fluids, similar features have also been observed in experimental data from collisions of small systems. Research efforts are focused on understanding whether systems that produce relatively few particles and are only one to a few times the size of a proton can behave like fluids, by improving our understanding of fluid dynamics and initial state effects within an effective theory of quantum chromodynamics.

Convergence of hydrodynamic modes: insights from kinetic theory and holography

Michal P. Heller et al.

Summary: This study examines the mechanisms setting the radius of convergence of hydrodynamic dispersion relations in kinetic theory, introducing a new feature compared to holography. It finds that the convergence radius is determined by collisions of hydrodynamic poles and branch points, and proposes using the Implicit Function Theorem to determine complex singularities of the dispersion relation. This provides a practical tool for determining the convergence radius of hydrodynamic dispersion relations.

Hydrodynamic gradient expansion in linear response theory

Michal P. Heller et al.

Summary: This study examines the properties of the hydrodynamic gradient expansion in relativistic fluid mechanics, focusing on its divergence for a broad class of microscopic theories in the linear regime. The critical momentum determining whether the expansion converges or diverges is an intrinsic property set by branch point singularities of hydrodynamic dispersion relations. The results do not rely on highly symmetric fluid flows used in previous studies of heavy-ion collisions and cosmology.
