Unitary p-wave interactions between fermions in an optical lattice

Vijin Venu et al.

Summary: Exchange-antisymmetric pair wavefunctions in fermionic systems can lead to unconventional superconductors and superfluids. Creating and controlling these states in quantum systems, such as ultracold gases, can enable new types of quantum simulations, topological quantum gates, and exotic few-body states. This study demonstrates the creation of isolated pairs of strongly interacting fermionic atoms in a multiorbital three-dimensional optical lattice, where the p-wave interaction energies can be accurately measured and tuned. The absence of three-body processes allows the observation of elastic unitary p-wave interactions and coherent oscillations between free-atom and interacting-pair states.

Competition between pairing and tripling in one-dimensional fermions with coexistent s- and p-wave interactions

Yixin Guo et al.

Summary: We theoretically investigate the two-and three-body correlations in one-dimensional two-component Fermi gases with even-parity s-wave and odd-parity p-wave interactions. By solving the corresponding in-medium variational equations, we find the stable in-medium three-body cluster states such as the Cooper triple. We also present a phase diagram consisting of the s- and p-wave Cooper pairing phases, and the Cooper tripling phase dominates when both s- and p-wave interactions are moderately strong.

Reduced density matrix approach to ultracold few-fermion systems in one dimension

Mitchell J. Knight et al.

Summary: This paper describes the variational determination of the two-fermion reduced density matrix for harmonically trapped, ultracold few-fermion systems in one dimension with equal spin populations. The problem is formulated as a semi-definite program subject to N-representability conditions. The ground-state energies, density, pair-correlation function, and eigenvalues of the 2-RDM are found using an augmented Lagrangian method. The results show that this method accurately describes the salient features of the systems and has the potential to handle larger systems.

Stability against three-body clustering in one-dimensional spinless p-wave fermions

Yixin Guo et al.

Summary: In this theoretical study, the in-medium two-and three-body correlations in one-dimensional spinless fermions with attractive two-body p-wave interaction were investigated. It was found that the strong-coupling side is more sensitive to the residual three-body interaction than the weak-coupling side.

Spin-polarized fermions with p-wave interactions

Furkan Cagri Top et al.

Summary: We have created quantum degenerate Fermi gases of Li-6 atoms at unprecedented high densities. The study focuses on the properties of p-wave matter and the effects of p-wave collisions on the system dynamics, including thermalization, evaporative cooling, and collisions. P-wave dipolar relaxation leads to a metastable mixture of different hyperfine states.
