Theory of drift-enabled control in nonlocal magnon transport

Sebastian de-la-Pena et al.

Summary: This article examines the role of drift currents in the electrically injected and detected nonlocal magnon transport, and explores the method of controlling the magnon propagation length. By formulating a phenomenological description, the essential requirements for the existence of magnon drift are identified. Based on this insight, the magnetic field gradient, asymmetric contribution to dispersion, and temperature gradient are examined as three representative mechanisms, with temperature gradient found to be particularly effective.

Magnonic proximity effect in insulating ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic trilayers

Verena Brehm et al.

Summary: In this study, the magnetic proximity effect in multilayer systems composed of different ferro-and antiferromagnetic materials was investigated using an atomistic spin model. The results show that the magnetic order in the central layer is enhanced, even in the case of an antiferromagnet surrounded by ferromagnetic materials.

Spin-Wave Doppler Shift by Magnon Drag in Magnetic Insulators

Tao Yu et al.

Summary: The Doppler shift caused by charge currents in superconductors and metallic ferromagnets is responsible for critical supercurrents and magnetic ground state instabilities. In this study, a similar effect is predicted in thin films of magnetic insulators, where microwaves generate coherent chiral spin currents that cause a shift in the magnon dispersion. The spin-wave instability is suppressed by interactions between magnons, limiting spin currents to values below the threshold for instability and should be considered in the design of magnonic devices.

Magnon spin transport around the compensation magnetic field in easy-plane antiferromagnetic insulators

Ka Shen

Summary: This study investigates magnon spin transport in easy-plane antiferromagnetic insulators, finding that an external magnetic field can compensate for band splitting due to magnetic anisotropy, activating the intrinsic magnon spin Hall effect. This compensation feature allows for field control of magnon spin lifetime and spin diffusion length.

Control of Nonlocal Magnon Spin Transport via Magnon Drift Currents

Richard Schlitz et al.

Summary: Spin transport via magnon diffusion in magnetic insulators is important, but the lack of the magnon equivalent of an electric force poses a bottleneck. The controlled generation of magnon drift currents in heterostructures of yttrium iron garnet and platinum has been demonstrated, with drift currents stemming from the interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. The drift current can be further controlled by the orientation of the magnetic field, changing the magnon propagation length and leading to a generalization of magnonic spin transport theory.

Low-temperature suppression of the spin Nernst angle in Pt

T. Wimmer et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the ability to measure the spin Nernst effect using bilayers of antiferromagnetic insulators and platinum, showing the suppression of the spin Nernst angle at low temperatures. The observed signal originates from the interplay between interface spin accumulation in platinum and the orientation of the Neel vector of the antiferromagnetic insulator, rather than its net magnetization.
