Reservoir-Engineered Spin Squeezing: Macroscopic Even-Odd Effects and Hybrid-Systems Implementations

Peter Groszkowski et al.

Summary: This article revisits the dissipative approach to producing and stabilizing spin-squeezed states and provides a detailed analysis of two surprising features of such protocols: the macroscopic sensitivity of the steady state to the parity of N and the anomalous long timescale and prethermalized regime observed in weak single-spin dephasing. It also proposes a general hybrid-systems approach that can implement dissipative spin squeezing without requiring squeezed input light or complex multilevel atoms.

Quantum state preparation and tomography of entangled mechanical resonators

E. Alex Wollack et al.

Summary: Precisely engineered mechanical oscillators play a crucial role in timekeeping, signal filtering, and motion sensing. By interfacing them with engineered quantum circuits, it is possible to bring mechanical devices into the quantum domain. Recent proposals suggest the possibility of powerful quantum acoustic processors by combining microwave-frequency mechanical resonators with superconducting devices. Several experiments have already demonstrated quantum state control and readout, phonon number resolution, and phonon-mediated qubit-qubit interactions in different mechanical systems. However, current acoustic platforms lack the capability to control the quantum states of multiple mechanical oscillators with a single qubit and to perform rapid quantum non-demolition measurements for error correction.

Parity measurement in the strong dispersive regime of circuit quantum acoustodynamics

Uwe von Luepke et al.

Summary: The combination of mechanical resonators and superconducting circuits provides a promising platform for controlling non-classical mechanical states. In this study, we directly measure the parity of a motional quantum state using this platform. Furthermore, our results pave the way for conducting more complex quantum algorithms using mechanical systems.

Superconducting-qubit readout via low-backaction electro-optic transduction

R. D. Delaney et al.

Summary: Entangling microwave-frequency superconducting quantum processors through optical light at ambient temperature would enable secure communication and distributed quantum information processing. However, transducing quantum signals between these disparate regimes of the electro-magnetic spectrum remains an outstanding goal, and interfacing superconducting qubits with electro-optic transducers presents considerable challenges. In this study, a low-backaction electro-optomechanical transducer is used to readout a superconducting transmon qubit. The modular nature of the transducer and circuit quantum electrodynamics system enable complete isolation of the qubit from optical photons, with minimal backaction on the qubit. Improvements in the transducer bandwidth and noise levels will enable the transduction of non-classical signals from a superconducting qubit to the optical domain.

Optomechanical interface between telecom photons and spin quantum memory

Prasoon K. Shandilya et al.

Summary: The article presents a new method based on cavity optomechanics that utilizes the susceptibility of spin qubits to control electronic spins of nitrogen vacancy centres in diamond. This method does not involve qubit optical transitions and can be applied to solid-state qubits in a wide variety of materials, expanding the toolbox for quantum information processing.

Summary: The study demonstrates multi-axis coherent control of the SnV spin qubit through all-optical stimulated Raman drive, confirming its coherent access and revealing spin dephasing time and spin coherence time. By integrating SnV into photonic nanostructures, it becomes a competitive spin-photon building block for quantum networks.

Circuit quantum electrodynamics

Alexandre Blais et al.

Summary: Circuit quantum electrodynamics (QED) is an independent and thriving field of research that allows unprecedented detailed study and control of light-matter interaction at the quantum level. It has become essential in current approaches to gate-based digital quantum information processing with superconducting circuits, and also provides a framework for the study of hybrid quantum systems. The coherent coupling of superconducting qubits to microwave photons, dispersive qubit readout, and different regimes of light-matter interaction are key aspects of circuit QED.
