Modeling phosphorene and MoS2 interacting with iron: lubricating effects compared to graphene

Gabriele Losi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the potential use of phosphorene as a solid lubricant for iron-based materials. Through calculations, it is found that phosphorene has stronger adhesion to the iron surface, leading to a stable and durable coverage. Additionally, phosphorene exhibits the unique ability to exfoliate into two atomic-thin layers, reducing nano-asperity adhesion by passivating the surface and countersurface. These results suggest that phosphorene could outperform other solid lubricants at low concentrations.

Effect of vibration parameters on the material removal characteristics of high-entropy alloy in scratching

Dinh-Quan Doan et al.

Summary: The deformation behavior and microstructural growth of monocrystalline CoCrFeNiCu high-entropy alloy during vibration-assisted scratching were investigated through molecular dynamics simulation. The results show that vibration-assisted scratching effectively decreases the total force, increases the shear strain concentration region, and produces a larger high-temperature zone, which contributes to easier machining.

Enhancement of frictional properties of Ni-MoS2 self-lubricating composite coatings by microgroove arrays

Yuhang Yao et al.

Summary: In this paper, a self-lubricating Ni-MoS2 composite coating deposited on a stainless-steel surface with microgroove arrays was prepared and characterized. The coating exhibited improved frictional properties compared to coatings deposited directly on non-textured substrates, with reduced coefficient of friction, decreased wear volume and depth of wear track, shorter running-in time, and increased lifetime.

Nano-tribological behavior of high-entropy alloys CrMnFeCoNi and CrFeCoNi under different conditions: A molecular dynamics study

Yunqing Tang et al.

Summary: High-entropy alloys (HEAs) have superior properties and high wear resistance, but further understanding of their responses to different wearing conditions is needed for effective utilization. Research on nano-wear and nano/micro-machining under different conditions is limited, affecting the extension of HEAs to nanotechnological areas. This study using molecular dynamics simulations provides insight into the nano-tribological behaviors of HEAs under different wearing conditions, helping to mitigate wear or improve machining efficiency.

Wear resistance and self-lubrication of electrodeposited Ni-SiC:MoS2 mixed particles composite coatings

S. Pinate et al.

Summary: Ni-based mixed particles composite coatings are designed for superior wear resistance by combining hard carbides and solid lubricants. The presence of MoS2 particles leads to nanocrystallinity in the nickel matrix, resulting in extremely high hardness of approximately 1110 HV and self-lubrication capability.
