Modeling the width of exciton formation zone in organic light emitting diode

Dashan Qin

Summary: Through simulating the model of carrier device lifetimes, the width of exciton formation zone in a single-layer organic light emitting diode (OLED) has been studied. The results show that the width of exciton formation zone decreases with increasing device current density, while increasing the thickness of emissive layer (EML) can widen the exciton formation zone. There is an optimal value of EML's charge carrier mobility to maximize the width of exciton formation zone. Additionally, the width of exciton formation zone is strongly influenced by the trap density and dielectric constant of EML. These findings provide insights for optimizing EMLs to achieve wide exciton formation zone and extend the operational stability of OLED.

Quantifying Exciton Annihilation Effects in Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence Materials

Kalyani Thakur et al.

Summary: Key parameters in the design and performance of thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) emitters are the rates of intersystem crossing between singlet and triplet states. These rates can be determined from prompt and delayed photoluminescence decay, with the latter strongly dependent on the initial photoexcited population density. Modeling of the photoluminescence of TADF emitters reveals singlet-triplet and triplet-triplet annihilation as main loss processes, emphasizing the importance of considering these quenching processes for accurate estimation of intersystem crossing rates.

Effects of hole transport and energy barrier on the width of the exciton formation zone in organic light-emitting diodes

Wenxing Liu et al.

Summary: Phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) based on MoO3-doped N,N'-bis-(1-naphthyl)-di-phenyl-1,1' -biphenyl-4,4'-diamin (NPB:MoO3) and 4,4'-N,N'-dicarbazole-biphenyl (CBP:MoO3) have been fabricated. The device using a NPB:MoO3/CBP:MoO3 bilayer shows a wider exciton formation zone and improved efficiency than the one using a CBP:MoO3 layer. The energy barrier between NPB:MoO3 and CBP:MoO3 has a significant effect on the device's current density vs. voltage characteristics, but it has minimal impact on the width of the exciton formation zone.

Strong Intermolecular Interactions Induced by High Quadrupole Moments Enable Excellent Photostability of Non-Fullerene Acceptors for Organic Photovoltaics

Joel Luke et al.

Summary: Understanding the molecular structure of non-fullerene acceptors (NFAs) and their impact on photostability is crucial for improving the stability of organic photovoltaic devices. This study reveals that end-group substitution on NFAs strongly modulates electron distribution within the molecule and affects intermolecular interactions, thus influencing photostability and morphological stability. The correlation between NFA quadrupole moment and photostability suggests a new synthetic direction for photostable organic photovoltaic materials.

Efficient and stable one-micrometre-thick organic light-emitting diodes

Guanhao Liu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates highly efficient and stable OLEDs with thicknesses of over 1 mu m and low operating voltages. MoO3/SimCP2 is used as a hole-injection layer and a thick layer of TAPC is used as a hole-transporting layer. A thin layer of HAT-CN is incorporated to suppress electron leakage. The research paves the way for large-area OLED-based displays and lighting with high production yields.

Hot exciplexes in U-shaped TADF molecules with emission from locally excited states

A. Lennart Schleper et al.

Summary: The study proposes a method called hot exciplexes to achieve fast emission and high color purity simultaneously in modern opto-electronic devices. By coupling donor and acceptor moieties to an anthracene bridge, hot exciplexes with large T-1 to T-2 spacing can be produced, offering potential for improving the performance of TADF emitters.
