Impact of Y2O3 on structural, mechanical and nonlinear optical properties of CrO3-Na2O-B2O3 glasses

Hani. H. Negm et al.

Summary: In this study, the effects of transition metal (Cr3+), alkali (Na1+), and rare earth (Y3+) ion doping on the structural, mechanical, and nonlinear optical properties of borate glass were investigated. The doping resulted in peculiar behaviors in the structural parameters, such as decreased total ion concentrations and atomic packing density. The addition of Y2O3 also led to decreased mechanical parameters and increased linear and nonlinear refractive indices.

Barium-lead-borosilicate glass containing lanthanum oxide: fabrication, physical properties, and photon shielding characteristics

Zehra Nur Kuluozturk et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the effects of lanthanum oxide (La2O3) on barium-lead-borosilicate (BLBS) glass systems. We found that increasing La2O3 content had a positive influence on glass density and molar volumes. In terms of gamma-ray attenuation characteristics, the linear attenuation coefficient (LAC) increased with the addition of La2O3, with the La-20 sample showing the highest protection ability. Our experimental results were consistent with simulations and previous studies. Furthermore, the glass samples with added La2O3 showed potential for photon shielding applications.

Impact of sunlight on the optical properties and ligand field parameters of nickel borosilicate glasses

Faten Al-Hazmi et al.

Summary: This study discusses the impact of sunlight on stability and optical properties of borosilicate glasses doped with NiO synthesized via melt quenching approach. It was found that the average density and molar volume decrease with higher NiO doping, leading to decreased stability under sunlight irradiation. However, glass samples with 1% NiO content showed the lowest degradation percentage under sunlight, indicating the highest stability compared to other samples.
