The glass transition and the non-Arrhenian viscosity of carbonate melts

Donald B. Dingwell et al.

Summary: This study presents the first calorimetric observation of the glass transition in a carbonate melt. The results reveal a highly non-Arrhenian viscosity-temperature relationship in carbonate liquids and confirm their fragile behavior. The findings also suggest that the fragility of carbonate melts may be attributed to the formation of temperature-dependent low-dimensional structures.

Analytical solution for temperature equation of a fin problem with variable temperature-dependent thermal properties: Application of LSM and DTM-Pade approximant

Weaam Alhejaili et al.

Summary: This study explains the temperature variation in a longitudinal fin with linear and nonlinear temperature-dependent thermal conductivities and heat transfer coefficient, considering radiative heat flux and convective heat transfer. The results show that an increase in convection and radiation mechanism leads to a significant decrease in the thermal field, and the internal development of heat affects the thermal distribution in the fin.

Mapping and classification of ionic liquids in terms of glass transition and fragility

Yukio Terashima et al.

Summary: In contrast to the numerous application studies on ionic liquids (ILs), there is a scarcity of systematic investigations on their glass transition thermodynamics and kinetics. This study aims to map and classify typical ILs based on their glass transition temperature (T-g), heat capacity change (Delta C-p) at T-g, and fragility index (m) as a function of molar mass (M). By determining the representative thermodynamic parameters and calculating the kinetic parameters, the authors evaluated the glass-forming tendency and predicted the glass transition and fragility of ILs.

Born-Pade approach to electromagnetic scattering in complex one-dimensional inhomogeneous slabs

J. A. Reboucas et al.

Summary: This paper applies perturbation theory to investigate one-dimensional scattering systems composed of inhomogeneous and isotropic slabs. The transmitted and reflected amplitudes are expressed as Born series and approximate solutions are obtained using Pade approximants with high and arbitrary accuracy. The approach is versatile and can handle oblique incidence.

Chiral extrapolation of the charged-pion magnetic polarizability with Pade approximant

Fangcheng He et al.

Summary: The background magnetic-field formalism of lattice QCD was utilized to compute the magnetic polarizability of the charged pion recently. By employing partially quenched chiral perturbation theory, the impact of electroquenching in numerical simulations was understood. A Pade approximant and two-loop contributions were introduced to describe the lattice QCD results and assess systematic uncertainties, with the final value of the charged pion's magnetic polarizability found to be in good agreement with experimental measurements.
