A high-dosage microneedle for programmable lidocaine delivery and enhanced local long-lasting analgesia

Ze Qiang Zhao et al.

Summary: Considering the global prevalence of local pain, this study developed a GelMA MNs system for sustained delivery of lidocaine hydrochloride. Results showed that the system was reliable and efficient, enhancing and prolonging the anesthetic effect in a rat model. Biosafety evaluation confirmed the absence of side effects.

Resveratrol and regular exercise may attenuate hypertension-induced cardiac dysfunction through modulation of cellular stress responses

Nur Banu Bal et al.

Summary: This study compared the effects of resveratrol supplementation and regular exercise on hypertension-induced cellular stress responses of the myocardium. The results showed that both resveratrol and exercise reduced systolic blood pressure in hypertensive rats, improved cardiac muscle responses, and reduced oxidative stress. Regular exercise restored endoplasmic reticulum stress and decreased mitogenic activation, while resveratrol only improved mitophagy. Additionally, both resveratrol and exercise suppressed inflammation.

Construction of pH-Dependent Nanozymes with Oxygen Vacancies as the High-Efficient Reactive Oxygen Species Scavenger for Oral-Administrated Anti-Inflammatory Therapy

Ning Zhao et al.

Summary: The study introduces a novel nanozyme NiCo2O4@PVP with good biocompatibility and reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging ability for treating inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). NiCo2O4@PVP can pass through the digestive tract and target the inflamed site for oral-administrated anti-inflammatory therapy, resulting in a significant decrease in the expression levels of inflammatory factors in the colon.

Traditional Herbal Medicine Discovery for the Treatment and Prevention of Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension

Zhifeng Xue et al.

Summary: Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a serious and fatal pulmonary disease characterized by pulmonary artery remodeling. Traditional herbal medicine (THM) treatment has been gradually showing advantages worldwide in treating PAH through multi-level and multi-target approaches, with potential mechanisms including suppression of cell proliferation and apoptosis, control of inflammation and oxidative stress, and regulation of vasoconstriction and ion channels. Clinical trials are ongoing for promising medicines like sodium tanshinone IIA sulfonate sodium and tetramethylpyrazine, and reverse pharmacology has been proposed for PAH treatment research and development.

Quercetin Attenuates Atherosclerotic Inflammation by Inhibiting Galectin-3-NLRP3 Signaling Pathway

Hongxia Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the anti-atherosclerotic properties of quercetin by modulating the Gal-3-NLRP3 pathway, showing promising effects in reducing atherosclerotic lesions. The findings suggest a potential strategy for the prevention and treatment of atherosclerosis using naturally-occurring quercetin.

Worldwide trends in hypertension prevalence and progress in treatment and control from 1990 to 2019: a pooled analysis of 1201 population-representative studies with 104 million participants

Bin Zhou et al.

Summary: Global prevalence of hypertension doubled from 1990 to 2019, with significant improvements in detection, treatment, and control rates. In 2019, 59% of women and 49% of men with hypertension were previously diagnosed, while treatment rates were 47% for women and 38% for men, with control rates at 23% for women and 18% for men. Disparities exist across countries, with some middle-income nations now outperforming high-income countries in hypertension management.
