Efficacy and safety of standardized Ginkgo biloba L. leaves extract as an adjuvant therapy for sudden sensorineural hearing loss: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Xia Si et al.

Summary: Ginkgo biloba extract as an adjuvant to corticosteroids can improve the clinical cure rate and total effective rate in patients with sudden sensorineural hearing loss. It also leads to better pure tone average improvement and lower levels of some blood viscosity parameters and fibrinogen. However, further high-quality studies are needed to confirm the results.

Injected 3T-3D-FLAIR-MRI labyrinthine patterns match with the severity and tonotopic alteration in sudden sensorineural hearing loss

L. Compagnone et al.

Summary: This study examines the correlation between MRI labyrinthine changes and the type of sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL). The results show that a pathologic cochlear base signal is always detected in MRI, cochlear apical turn enhancement matches with low-tone impairment, and a pathological signal within the posterior labyrinth is associated with an impairment of all frequencies and the severity of SSNHL.

Stephan W. Barth et al.

Summary: Tinnitus is the perception of sound in the absence of external acoustic stimuli, often accompanied by comorbidities like depression and anxiety, with no cure currently available. This review discusses the heterogeneity of tinnitus subtypes based on inner ear and brain structures involved, as well as the different target structures and transmitter systems implicated in tinnitus development. The efficacy of EGb 761 (R) from Ginkgo biloba leaves in both nonclinical tinnitus models and clinical trials will be a special focus.
