Effect of back pressure on the separation performance of a hydrocyclone

Peikun Liu et al.

Summary: This study uses numerical simulation to investigate the effect of overflow back pressure on the internal flow field and separation performance of hydrocyclones. The results indicate that increasing the overflow back pressure leads to higher energy consumption, increased solid phase yield, higher content of fine particles, lower content of coarse particles, and reduced separation accuracy of the hydrocyclones.

Developing offshore natural gas hydrate from existing oil & gas platform based on a novel multilateral wells system: Depressurization combined with thermal flooding by utilizing geothermal heat from existing oil & gas wellbore

Xuyue Chen et al.

Summary: This study proposes an innovative method for developing offshore natural gas hydrate (NGH) from existing oil & gas platforms and investigates its recovery performance through numerical simulation. The results show that this method can significantly reduce NGH concentration and produce a large amount of natural gas, with bottom hole pressure and formation temperature being the key controlling factors, and the production mode of continuous injection-intermittent production being the most effective.

Influence of Particle Size on the Heat and Mass Transfer Characteristics of Methane Hydrate Formation and Decomposition in Porous Media

Xiao-Yan Li et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that particle size affects the formation and dissociation rates of gas hydrates, with coarser particles being more advantageous for production. Two stages are involved in the formation process, with smaller particles leading to shorter nucleation induction times and faster formation rates.

Numerical analysis on the effect of the length of arc-shaped vortex finder on the hydrocyclone's flow field and separation performance

Feng Li et al.

Summary: The use of an arc-shaped vortex finder in a hydrocyclone can effectively reduce short-circuit flow and improve particle separation. Increasing the arc length led to a rise and then a drop in tangential velocity and pressure drop, with the most efficient separation achieved at an arc length of 30 mm.

Hydrocyclone used for in-situ sand removal of natural gas-hydrate in the subsea

Yu-long Chang et al.

Summary: This study aims to improve the performance of a hydrocyclone suitable for subsea gas hydrate extraction by studying the effects of operating and geometric parameters through experiments and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method. Results show that the optimal flow rate is 7 m(3)/h, and separation efficiency decreases while pressure drop increases as the solid content of the inlet increases.

Numerical simulation study of offshore heavy oil desanding by hydrocyclones

Jiaqiang Jing et al.

Summary: Sand production is common in offshore heavy oil production, posing risks to production safety. The high viscosity of heavy oil makes the separation of sand particles challenging. This study proposes a desanding scheme that combines viscosity reduction through water blending and hydrocyclone separation, focusing on the characteristics of hydrocyclone separation in heavy oil desanding.
