Pre-hospital airway management and survival outcomes after paediatric out-of-hospital cardiac arrests

Lai Peng Tham et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of pre-hospital airway management on survival outcomes for paediatric out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) in the Asia-pacific region. The results showed that advanced airway management (supraglottic airways and endotracheal intubations) was associated with decreased one-month survival and less favourable neurological status compared to bag-valve-mask ventilation.

Summary: This multicenter cohort study in Japan evaluated the effectiveness of physicians' presence in pre-hospital settings for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patients. The study found a significantly improved one-month favorable neurological survival rate when physicians were present in pre-hospital settings compared to when they were absent.

Every one-minute delay in EMS on-scene resuscitation after out-of-hospital pediatric cardiac arrest lowers ROSC by 5%

Paul Banerjee et al.

Summary: The study found that predictors of return of spontaneous circulation, survival to hospital admission, and survival to hospital discharge after pediatric cardiac arrest included factors such as epinephrine administration, bystander treatment prior to EMS arrival, age, time to EMS arrival, and AED placement. Shorter time to EMS arrival, bystander treatment, and AED placement were associated with higher rates of return of spontaneous circulation.
