Clinical cases of zoonotic Cryptosporidium parvum (subtype IIdA15G1) infections in Korean goats

Jongho Kim et al.

Summary: This study reports on two cases of severe cryptosporidiosis in goat kids in the Republic of Korea. The cases were diagnosed with cryptosporidiosis based on histopathological analysis, genetic subtype analysis, and detection of the parasite. The findings highlight the importance of continuous monitoring and prevention of C. parvum infections in goats for reducing economic losses and maintaining public health safety standards.

Global Goat! Is the Expanding Goat Population an Important Reservoir of Cryptosporidium?

Kjersti Selstad Utaaker et al.

Summary: Goats are an important source of income for many families in resource-poor areas due to their resilience and ability to thrive in various environments. Despite concerns about the transmission of Cryptosporidium between goats and humans, epidemiological studies have largely concluded that it is not zoonotic. However, the impact of cryptosporidiosis on human health in developing countries, where goat husbandry practices differ significantly from developed countries, remains a concern.

MEGA11 Molecular Evolutionary Genetics Analysis Version 11

Koichiro Tamura et al.

Summary: MEGA software, a mature tool for computational molecular evolution, has been enhanced with new additions for building timetrees of species, pathogens, and gene families using rapid relaxed-clock methods. These additions include methods for estimating divergence times, confidence intervals, and new options for tagging sequences with spatiotemporal sampling information. The enhancements aim to improve user experience, result quality, and the pace of biological discovery.
