Enantioselective C(sp3)-C(sp3) Reductive Cross-Electrophile Coupling of Unactivated Alkyl Halides with α-Chloroboronates via Dual Nickel/Photoredox Catalysis

Jun Zhou et al.

Summary: Substantial advances have been made in enantioconvergent C(sp3)-C(sp3) bond formations with the utilization of dual nickel/photoredox catalysis system. This method allows for direct coupling of two different alkyl halides, resulting in the formation of chiral secondary alkyl boronic esters. These intermediates are important in organic synthesis and provide a desirable strategy for the construction of enantioenriched complex molecules.

Dengkai Lin et al.

Summary: The development of new catalytic enantioselective access to stereogenic CF3-containing molecules is of great interest for expediting the discovery of lead compounds that remain challenging. In this study, a general and modular approach using nickel-catalyzed reductive cross-coupling was developed to access enantioenriched alpha-CF3 ketones. The method exhibited high chemoselectivity, excellent functional group tolerance, and facile scale-up, making it a reliable and efficient alternative for synthesizing enantiopure alpha-CF3 carbonyls.

Photochemical Allylation of Alkanes Enabled by Nickel Catalysis

Youxiang Jin et al.

Summary: In this study, a dual photo-HAT/nickel catalysis was developed for allylic alkylation of alkanes. Radical-type hydrogen-atom-transfer of the alkanes was facilitated by decatungstate as a photocatalyst, while nickel was used to cleave the C-O bond in the substrates under mild reaction conditions. This co-catalyzed reaction provides a direct method for functionalizing alkanes.

Origin and Regioselectivity of Direct Hydrogen Atom Transfer Mechanism of C(sp3)-H Arylation by [W10O32]4-/Ni Metallaphotoredox Catalysis

Yu-Jiao Dong et al.

Summary: A challenging [W10O32](4-)/Ni metallaphotoredox-catalyzed C(sp(3))-H arylation of alkane was investigated by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The calculation revealed that the superficial active center located in bridged oxygen of *[W10O32](4-) is responsible for the abstraction of a foreign hydrogen atom and the activation of a C(sp(3))-H bond. Comparing three common mechanisms for nickel catalysis inducing by Ni-0, Ni-I, and Ni-II to construct a C-C bond, the nickel catalytic cycle induced by the Ni-I active catalyst is profitable in kinetics and thermodynamics.
