A Computational Study on the Photochemical O-HFunctionalization of Alcohols with Diazoacetates

Chao Pei et al.

Summary: In this computational study, the authors analyze the reaction mechanism and observe the formation of a singlet carbene. Depending on the pKa value of the alcohol, this carbene can undergo direct protonation or enol formation to yield different products. Propargylic alcohols, on the other hand, form a complex with the carbene intermediate, leading to facile cyclopropenation reactions.

Annulation-Triggered Denitrogenative Transformations of 2-(5-Iodo-1,2,3-triazolyl)benzoic Acids

Vladislav A. Voloshkin et al.

Summary: The ability of [1,2,3]triazolobenzoxazinones to serve as a source of hidden diazo groups has been discovered. These diazo precursors can be easily prepared through intramolecular cyclization and further functionalized using Cu-catalyzed diazo capture. Various anthranilamides and thiolated benzoxazinones can be synthesized using this one-pot cyclization/diazo capture procedure.

Synthesis of Chiral β,β-Disubstituted Ketones via CuH-Catalyzed Coupling of Aryl Alkenes and 3-Aryl-2H-azirines

Fang Xie et al.

Summary: A CuH-catalyzed coupling reaction between aryl alkenes and 3-aryl-2H-azirines has been developed to synthesize optically active beta,beta-disubstituted ketones. The reaction proceeds via the regioselective attack of a chiral alkylcopper complex on the N-C2 bonds of azirines, generating chiral beta-aryl imines that can be further hydrolyzed to give ketones. This method provides a novel and efficient approach for the synthesis of chiral beta,beta-disubstituted ketones under mild conditions.

Modular approach to non-aromatic and aromatic pyrroles through gold-catalyzed [3+2] cycloaddition of 2H-azirines and ynamides

Nikolay Shcherbakov et al.

Summary: The developed modular approach to hard-to-reach non-aromatic 3H- and 2H-pyrroles is based on the integration of 2H-azirines and ynamides. The gold-catalyzed [3 + 2] cycloaddition of 2,2-disubstituted 2H-azirines and ynamides provides a high-yielding route to 5-amino-3H-pyrroles. Furthermore, the acid-promoted 1,5-shift-based isomerization of the obtained 5-amino-3H-pyrroles results in fully substituted 5-amino-2H-pyrroles, while the use of 2-substituted 2H-azirine-2-carboxylic acid leads to an aromatic 2-amino-1H-pyrrole scaffold.

Visible light-driven [3+3] annulation reaction of 2H-azirines with Huisgen zwitterions and synthesis of 1,2,4-triazines

Shixuan Cao et al.

Summary: This study presents a visible light-driven annulation reaction of 2H-azirines with in situ generated Huisgen zwitterions, leading to polysubstituted dihydro-1,2,4-triazines in high yields. Mechanistic studies reveal a cascade sequence of nucleophilic addition, light-driven ester migration, and aza-Wittig-like cyclization in this reaction.

Synthesis of functionalized 1-aminoisoquinolines through cascade three-component reaction of ortho-alkynylbenzaldoximes, 2H-azirines, and electrophiles

Reyhaneh Hosseinijei et al.

Summary: A new three-component approach using ortho-alkynylbenzaldoximes for the synthesis of 1-aminoisoquinolines via cascade 6-endo-cyclization, 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction with 2H-azirines, and ring-opening reaction sequences has been developed. The method offers structurally diverse products, good to high yields, high atom-economy, and high bond-formation efficiency, making it an attractive alternative for the synthesis of 1-aminoisoquinolines.

Divergent Gold Catalysis: Unlocking Molecular Diversity through Catalyst Control

Chetan C. Chintawar et al.

Summary: Gold complexes have emerged as powerful catalysts in divergent catalysis, offering unique reactivity profiles due to their tunable soft pi-acidic nature. They not only catalyze reactions of alkynes, alkenes, and allenes effectively, but also provide divergent reaction pathways over other pi-acid catalysts like Ag, Pt, Pd, Rh, Cu, In, Sc, Hg, Zn, etc. Reviews documenting such examples are sporadic, hindering the further development of this burgeoning field, thus necessitating a unified approach like Divergent Gold Catalysis (DGC) to consolidate reports and pave the way for advancement.
