Nonlinear spectral tunability of pulsed fiber laser with semiconductor optical amplifier

Anastasia Bednyakova et al.

Summary: This study examines the spectral properties of radiation in pulsed fiber lasers using the semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) as the gain medium. The interactions between fiber propagation effects, nonlinear effects in the SOA, and spectral filtering result in a shift of the generated radiation from the central wavelength of the filter. The wavelength of the output radiation depends on the SOA pump power and the bandwidth of the intracavity filter, allowing for spectral tunability of the generated pulses through nonlinear dynamics.

Nonlinear spectral blueshift in semicondutor optical amplifiers

A. E. Bednyakova et al.

Summary: In this study, we show that the spectral peak power of negatively chirped optical pulses can experience a blueshift after amplification by a semiconductor optical amplifier. The central wavelength of a transform limited optical pulse can shift over 20 nm towards a shorter wavelength after propagation in a single-mode fiber and semiconductor optical amplifier. A chirped Gaussian pulse with specific parameters can be blueshifted by 5 THz.
