Measuring ionization time lag of polar molecules with a calibrated attoclock

Jiayin Che et al.

Summary: Electrons in atoms and molecules do not immediately respond to intense laser fields, resulting in a time lag of about 100 attoseconds between the field maximum and the ionization-rate maximum. This lag plays a crucial role in the dynamics of ionized electrons and is particularly challenging to measure or calculate for polar molecules. A calibrated attoclock procedure, based on a Coulomb-induced temporal correction to electron trajectories, is proposed to measure the relative time lag between two different ionization events. This procedure allows for high-resolution probing of the relative lag in polar molecules during consecutive half laser cycles.

Roles of laser ellipticity in attoclocks

J. Y. Che et al.

Summary: We numerically and analytically study the ionization of atoms in strong elliptically polarized laser fields. We investigate the effects of laser ellipticity on the offset angle in the photoelectron momentum distribution, which encodes the time information of tunneling ionization. Our calculations show that the offset angle increases with decreasing ellipticity, while the momentum along the major axis of laser polarization changes slowly, consistent with experimental observations. By considering the Coulomb interaction in a strong-field model, we obtain scaling laws for the ellipticity dependence of the offset angle and relevant momentum components, and we also address the ellipticity dependence of the Coulomb-induced ionization time lag encoded in this angle.

Full experimental determination of tunneling time with attosecond-scale streaking method

Miao Yu et al.

Summary: This study proposes and demonstrates a new scheme for accurately determining the tunneling time of an electron. By using a weak laser field to streak the tunneling current produced by a strong laser field, the tunneling ionization time can be retrieved with high precision. This approach overcomes previous difficulties in attoclock measurements and provides a direct method for attosecond time-resolved imaging of electron motion.

Local most-probable routes and classical-quantum correspondence in strong-field two-dimensional tunneling ionization

C. Chen et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the ionization of atoms in strong two-dimensional laser fields and explores the local most-probable tunneling routes and their corresponding photoelectron momentum distributions. A condition for these routes characterized by the electron position at the tunnel exit is obtained through classical-quantum correspondence. The findings address the semiclassical properties of 2D tunneling by comparing them with the classical limit and partial-decoupling approximation, indicating the potential use of local maxima of PMDs in ultrafast measurements.
