Inverse design of an air-cladding and fully-etched silicon polarization rotator based on a-based mode

Hansi Ma et al.

Summary: In this study, a polarization rotator based on a taper-based mode hybridization is designed, and the polarization-conversion and mode-conversion are achieved by the forward-design-assisted inverse design. The experimental results show that the polarization rotator has low insertion loss and high extinction ratio, and improving the initial structure quality contributes to algorithm convergence.

Hansi Ma et al.

Summary: Based on the novel concept of a fully-digitized module, a nonvolatile reconfigurable mode generator and an optical circulator were designed using a forward-designed-assisted inverse design method. The simulation results show that these devices can achieve low insertion losses and low crosstalk within a specific wavelength range, and can be extended to an arbitrary number of ports.
