Beam Scanning Transmitarray Employing Reconfigurable Dual-Layer Huygens Element

Summary: This article presents the development of a Ku-band electronic 2-D beam-scanning transmitarray using a new reconfigurable dual-layer Huygens element. The proposed element, consisting of two metallic crosses printed on two layers of a dielectric substrate, enables a near nonreflection Huygens resonance. A 1 bit phase compensation with low transmission loss is achieved by controlling two p-i-n diodes on the element. Compared to other reconfigurable transmitarray elements, the proposed Huygens element has a simpler configuration and biasing network, and is not affected by multilayer alignment errors.

A Low-Profile Wide-Angle Reconfigurable Transmitarray Antenna Using Phase Transforming Lens With Virtual Focal Source

Summary: This communication proposes a low-profile wide-angle reconfigurable transmitarray antenna (RTA) design, which consists of a feeding antenna, a phase transforming lens, and a 1 bit phase-reconfigurable transmitting antenna (PRTA). The design enables flexible wide-angle beam scanning and achieves high gain and wide bandwidth. Measurement results demonstrate the antenna's capability of 2D wide-angle beam scanning up to 60 degrees.

Design and Implementation of a Wideband 1-Bit Transmitarray Based on a Yagi-Vivaldi Unit Cell

Summary: A novel 1-bit reconfigurable transmitarray antenna based on a Yagi-Vivaldi unit cell for wideband and beam scanning applications at the $Ku$ -band is proposed. The antenna unit cell consists of a tightly coupled microstrip Yagi antenna and a Vivaldi antenna, and utilizes a novel phase shifter and metasurface to achieve reconfigurability and improve oblique incidence performance. The RTA prototype with $16\times 16$ unit cells demonstrates good bandwidth and beam scanning performance.
