Recent progress on acentric La3Nb0.5Ga5.5O14 crystals: large-size growth and application to ultrafast mid-infrared laser systems [Invited]

Yuzhou Wang et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the application of the La3Nb0.5Ga5.5O14 (LGN) crystal in mid-IR nonlinear frequency converters. By optimizing the starting polycrystalline component and temperature field, large-size LGN crystals with a diameter of 60 mm were successfully grown and their optical properties were characterized in detail. The findings suggest that LGN crystals have promising potential for generating few-cycle pulses and terawatt-class OPCPA systems.

Progress on table-top isolated attosecond light sources

Katsumi Midorikawa

Summary: Research on isolated attosecond pulses (IAPs) based on high-order harmonic generation underwent significant changes around 2010. The use of mid-infrared optical parametric amplifier as the driving source led to improved performance of IAPs in terms of pulse width, intensity, and photon energy. However, the limited flux of IAPs still restricts their applications.

Saturation control of an optical parametric chirped-pulse amplifier

Peter Fischer et al.

Summary: Optical Parametric Chirped-Pulse Amplification (OPCPA) is a light amplification technique that supports few-cycle pulses with multi-terawatt peak powers by providing broad spectral gain bandwidth and large energy. Controlling saturation in OPCPA can significantly improve overall gain, conversion efficiency, and spectral bandwidth.

Flat-Top Pumped Multi-Millijoule Mid-Infrared Parametric Chirped-Pulse Amplifier at 10 kHz Repetition Rate

Xiao Zou et al.

Summary: The advancement of mid-infrared parametric amplification technique has driven strong-field experiments in science, but low conversion efficiency in MIR wavelength hinders further exploration. An efficient method to double the efficiency of MIR OPCPA system is demonstrated with a flat-top pump profile, showing promise for high energy high power MIR lasers in emerging strong field experiments. This technique could potentially enhance parametric efficiency in other nonlinear conversions and wavelength ranges.

Multi-mJ Scaling of 5-Optical Cycle, 3 μm OPCPA

Joana Alves et al.

Summary: The design of an ultrafast optical parametric chirped pulse amplifier (OPCPA) operating at 3 μm is presented, capable of generating few-cycle pulses and multi-mJ output energy with sufficient bandwidth for compression. Compression using a simple bulk material enables reaching close to the pulse Fourier-transform limited duration, paving the way for high-energy, ultrafast mid-infrared pulses.

Efficient parametric amplification via simultaneous second harmonic generation

Noah Flemens et al.

Summary: The concept of efficient optical parametric amplification (OPA) based on simultaneously phase-matched idler second harmonic generation (SHG) is introduced, which allows for amplification efficiency exceeding that of conventional OPA. A Duffing oscillator model is developed to unify the description of conventional OPA and amplification accompanied by idler photon displacement. A spatiotemporal analysis predicts energy conversion up to 55% in devices based on birefringent or superlattice quasi-phase matching in common bulk media.
