Quadratic Peregrine solitons resonantly radiating without higher-order dispersion

Summary: We demonstrate that two-color Peregrine solitary waves in quadratic nonlinear media can generate resonant dispersive waves even in the absence of higher-order dispersion. This is achieved through a phase-matching mechanism involving the weaker second-harmonic component. Simple criteria for calculating the radiated frequencies based on material parameters are provided, which show excellent agreement with numerical simulations.

Excitation of nonlinear beams: from the linear Talbot effect through modulation instability to Akhmediev breathers

Summary: This study explains the smooth transition between stable, Talbot-effect-dominated and modulationally unstable nonlinear optical beam propagation through a superposition of oscillating eigenmodes. The saturation of instability is shown to be embedded between eigenmode growth and decay, accurately measured in experiments. The experimental results demonstrate interesting nonlinear beam scenarios and more selective breather excitation.
