Twisted Light in a Single-Crystal Fiber: Toward Undistorted Femtosecond Vortex Amplification

Yongguang Zhao et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a single-crystal fiber laser amplifier that can directly amplify femtosecond optical vortices while maintaining their spatial properties. The optical nonlinearity experienced by these twisted light beams is weaker compared to fundamental mode beams. The simple design and power scaling capability of this amplifier pave the way for ultrahigh-intensity femtosecond singular laser sources. These laser sources can help reveal complex physical phenomena in light-matter interactions and expand applications in fields such as X-ray vortices, laser plasma acceleration, and micromachining.

Balanced-ternary-inspired reconfigurable vortex beams using cascaded metasurfaces

Ji Liu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the reconfigurable generation of order-controllable vortices via cascaded metasurfaces and theoretically proves that multiple different vortex modes can be generated by cascading multiple metasurfaces. The experimental results showcase the reconfigurable generation of 26 different vortex beams with different orders.

Structured laser beams: toward 2-μm femtosecond laser vortices

Yongguang Zhao et al.

Summary: This study successfully generates ultrashort-pulse Hermite- and Laguerre-Gaussian laser modes with a pulse duration of around 100 fs from a compact solid-state laser in combination with a simple single-cylindrical-lens converter, pushing the advancement of such femtosecond structured laser sources into the 2-mu m spectral region. The negligible beam astigmatism, broad optical spectra, and almost chirp-free pulses highlight the high reliability of this laser source.

All-Dielectric Crescent Metasurface Sensor Driven by Bound States in the Continuum

Juan Wang et al.

Summary: Metasurfaces based on silicon crescent meta-atoms exhibit high sensitivity and potential for real-time and in situ biosensing for a wide range of diagnostic applications due to their high quality factor resonances and near-field enhancements. The higher-order resonance of the metasurface shows twice the sensitivity of the fundamental one for bulk refractive index sensing, making it ideal for compact sensing devices in microfluidic integration.

Terahertz vortex beam generator based on bound states in the continuum

TaiRong Bai et al.

Summary: This work proposes a method to generate vortex beams using the bound state in the continuum (BIC) supported by a photonic crystal slab structure. Theoretical analysis shows that this structure can act as momentum-space resonators to generate vortex beams and achieve higher-order vortex beams by changing the symmetry.
