Enhanced photocurrent in ferroelectric Bi0.5Na0.5TiO3 materials via ferro-pyro-phototronic effect

Yuan Liu et al.

Summary: We have significantly enhanced the photocurrent of a ferroelectric photoelectric device through the ferropyro-phototronic effect. The simultaneous use of both light and heating increases the peak and platform photocurrents by 131% and 57%, respectively. This enhancement is associated with an increase in pyroelectric coefficient, photoexcited carrier concentration, and carrier mobility at higher temperatures, resulting in a rapid response time.

Finite-temperature investigation of homovalent and heterovalent substituted BaTiO3 from first principles

Florian Mayer et al.

Summary: This study employs large-scale molecular dynamics simulations and an effective Hamiltonian approach to investigate the macroscopic properties of barium titanate solid solutions. Theoretical descriptions and density functional theory calculations are used to parametrize the models for homovalent and heterovalent substitutions. The effectiveness of the models is validated by comparing their predictions with experimental data, providing valuable insights.

Improved description of the potential energy surface in BaTiO3 by anharmonic phonon coupling

Florian Mayer et al.

Summary: By calculating the anharmonic contributions to the potential energy surface, the quality of molecular dynamics simulations of barium titanate can be improved, leading to more accurate predictions of physical properties such as phase transition temperatures. This approach can also be applied to other perovskite structures.

Non-volatile optical switch of resistance in photoferroelectric tunnel junctions

Xiao Long et al.

Summary: Optically controlled ferroelectric memories show promise for energy efficient and fast memory elements. By exploiting the imprint electric field and photovoltaic response in nanometric BaTiO3 films, it is possible to reverse polarization under illumination, trigger resistance changes in tunnel devices, and achieve robust cycling of resistance through dual control of light and electric fields. Designing energy efficient and fast optoelectric neuromorphic systems remains a challenge.

Enhanced bulk photovoltaic effect in two-dimensional ferroelectric CuInP2S6

Yue Li et al.

Summary: While magnetism, hyperferroelectricity, and topological phases have been extensively studied in two-dimensional materials, direct experimental investigation of the bulk photovoltaic effect in such materials remains unexplored. The authors of this study discovered the bulk photovoltaic effect in the 2D ferroelectric CuInP2S6. This work highlights the potential use of ultrathin two-dimensional ferroelectric materials for third-generation photovoltaic cells, surpassing the efficiency limits set by traditional p-n junction or Schottky barrier interfaces.

Temperature -induced surface phonon polaritons dissipation in perovskite SrTiO3

Jia-Yue Yang et al.

Summary: Perovskite SrTiO3 is an important technological material in nano-photonics, where lattice vibrations influence surface phonon polaritons and localized surface phonon resonances. Temperature variation affects the infrared dielectric functions, SPhPs, and LSPhRs of SrTiO3. Strong LSPhRs exist at 250K in SrTiO3 nanodisks but dissipate as lattice vibration strengthens.
