Chemerin contributes to inflammatory responses and suppresses osteogenic differentiation in chronic periodontitis

Xinling Wang et al.

Summary: This study found that levels of chemerin and inflammatory cytokines were higher in the gingival crevicular fluid and serum of chronic periodontitis (CP) patients, and were positively correlated with each other. Periodontal ligament stem cells (PDLSCs) isolated from CP patients had higher expressions of chemerin and these cytokines compared to healthy individuals. Furthermore, chemerin dose-dependently increased inflammatory responses and inhibited osteogenic differentiation of PDLSCs.

Comparison of the inflammatory states of serum and gingival crevicular fluid in periodontitis patients with or without type 2 diabetes mellitus

Xin-Ran Xu et al.

Summary: This study compared the inflammatory states in serum and gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) in periodontitis patients with or without type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and healthy subjects. The results showed higher levels of IL-17, visfatin, and RANKL/OPG ratio in the GCF and serum of patients with periodontitis and T2DM compared to healthy subjects. The inflammatory markers were also higher in patients with both periodontitis and T2DM compared to those with only periodontitis.

Summary: This study evaluated the biomorphological and proliferative effects of deproteinised bovine bone mineral (DBBM) materials treated with a low-temperature protocol on periodontal fibroblast cultures. The results showed that these materials stimulated morphological changes in the cells and promoted cell proliferation, with no differences in particle size.

Chemerin in inflammatory diseases

Xin Su et al.

Summary: Obesity leads to dysfunctional adipocytes with excessive production of adipokines, including chemerin, which plays a crucial role in regulating inflammatory diseases and is considered as a significant biomarker for tumors. Further studies on the pathologic mechanisms of chemerin action could lead to the development of new therapeutic approaches for various inflammatory conditions.
