Bionic investigation of a dolphin head-based hydrofoil with emphasis on energy performance and flow characteristics

Jinsong Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a new bionic hydrofoil based on the special shape of dolphin's head, and obtains three structures of dolphin bionic hydrofoils through corresponding modifications. Through the numerical method, the energy performance and flow characteristics of the bionic hydrofoils are investigated. The results show that compared with the original dolphin hydrofoil, the lift coefficients of the deflected dolphin hydrofoil are significantly increased under different attack angles. The pressure distribution and flow characteristics analysis reveal that the pressure on the hydrofoil surface affects the lift and drag coefficients.

Large Eddy Simulation on the Cavitation Flow and Noise Characteristics of a NACA0009 Hydrofoil With Different Tip Clearance Sizes

Xinlong Wang et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the energy performance and noise characteristics of NACA0009 hydrofoils with different tip clearance sizes. The study employs numerical simulation models to simulate tip-leakage cavitating flow and calculates the noise characteristics using noise source models and equations. The results show that the tip clearance has a large impact on the hydrofoil's energy performance and noise characteristics.

Cavitation flow and broadband noise source characteristics of NACA66 hydrofoil with a V groove on the suction surface

Jiahao Jia et al.

Summary: In this study, a V groove is added to a NACA66 hydrofoil to investigate cavitation flow and noise sources. The results show that the groove improves the energy characteristics of the hydrofoil and increases the lift-to-drag ratio. It can suppress the development of low-pressure, low-velocity regions on the hydrofoil surface during cavitation growth and reduce the pressure impact of cavitation collapse. The groove also reduces the average cavitation volume and decreases the average dipole and quadrupole noise on the hydrofoil surface.

Numerical study on cavitation-vortex-noise correlation mechanism and dynamic mode decomposition of a hydrofoil

Chen Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, a large eddy simulation model coupled with the modified Schnerr-Sauer cavitation model was used to numerically simulate the unsteady cavitation and noncavitation flow of a three-dimensional NACA66 hydrofoil under different operating conditions. The results indicate that the magnitude of the cavitation number plays a decisive role in the hydrofoil's cavitation quasiperiodic phenomenon.

Immersed boundary-physics informed machine learning approach for fluid-solid

Dehong Fang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a lightweight immersed boundary-physics informed machine learning model for fluid-solid coupling in large-scale simulations. The model is based on the physical framework of the immersed boundary method. Case studies on two-dimensional flows show close agreements between the simulation results of the model and reference data, with reduced time consumption compared to traditional methods. This demonstrates the robustness, speed, and accuracy of the machine learning approach for accelerating fluid dynamics simulations.
