Experimental and numerical investigations of dam break flow over dry and wet beds

Faroogh Garoosi et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigates dam-break flow over dry and wet beds to provide current data and deeper insight into the morphology and hydrodynamics of the flood wave. The experiments are conducted in a prismatic channel with a rectangular cross-section, capturing wave profiles, downstream pressure impacts, and water depths at specified locations. The laboratory observations and numerical comparisons show potential for benchmarking CFD tools and understanding complex physics of dam-break wave phenomena.

Influence of Turbulence Effects on the Runup of Tsunami Waves on the Shore within the Framework of the Navier-Stokes Equations

Andrey Kozelkov et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the turbulence effects on tsunami runup through simulations and comparative analysis. The study demonstrates that turbulence has minimal impact on the shape and propagation of tsunamis, but becomes noticeable during runup and collapse, potentially increasing flow by up to 25%.

Pore-scale simulation of remaining oil distribution in 3D porous media affected by wettability and capillarity based on volume of fluid method

Yongfei Yang et al.

Summary: Characterizing the trapped phase in porous media is crucial for various engineering applications. This study focuses on the distribution, evolution, and influencing factors of remaining oil during water flooding at the pore scale. The results indicate that complex pore structures lead to remaining oil generation and phase recirculation, with different wettability and capillary number impacting the process. Changing wettability and increasing capillary number can help reduce remaining oil saturation.

Numerical investigation of the impact of a dam-break induced flood on a structure

Ling Peng et al.

Summary: The study investigates the impact of dam-break floods on downstream structures, including the distribution and temporal variations of the pressure acting on the structures. Significant differences were observed in the water surface profiles upstream and downstream of the structures, as well as in the velocity distributions at the surface.

Numerical Study of the Dynamics and Structure of a Partial Dam-Break Flow Using the VOF Method

Alireza Khoshkonesh et al.

Summary: The paper evaluated the effects of the opening width of a dam site on the evolution of partial dam-break waves. It was found that decreasing the opening width decreases wave front travel distance, outflow discharge values, and Froude number values, while increasing air bubbles entrained within the wave.
