Quantitative detection of methylated SOCS-1 in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder considering SOCS-1-1478CA/del polymorphism and clinical parameters

Hasan Mervan Aytac et al.

Summary: This study investigated the methylation levels of the SOCS-1 gene in patients with schizophrenia (SCZ) and bipolar disorder (BD), and found that these levels were significantly lower in patients compared to the control group. The study also found a correlation between the SOCS-1 gene polymorphism and clinical manifestations in BD patients.

Relationship betweenGABRB2gene polymorphisms and schizophrenia susceptibility: a case-control study andin silicoanalyses

Milad Heidari Nia et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the association between two markers of the GABRB2 gene and the risk of schizophrenia in the Iranian population. The results showed that certain genetic polymorphisms were significantly associated with susceptibility to schizophrenia. Additionally, bioinformatics analysis predicted that these polymorphisms do not have significant effects on the secondary structure and splicing of GABRB2-mRNA.

Functional Variants of miR-143 Are Associated with Schizophrenia Susceptibility: A Preliminary Population-Based Study and Bioinformatics Analysis

Saman Sargazi et al.

Summary: The study found that polymorphisms in miR-143 may affect susceptibility to schizophrenia, with the CC genotype of rs4705342 significantly decreasing risk, while the CC genotype of rs4705343 increased risk. Haplotype analysis revealed specific gene combinations that significantly reduced susceptibility to schizophrenia.

Summary: Epigenetics is considered as a key link between gene and environment, influencing susceptibility to psychiatric disorders. Recent evidence suggests that acquired changes can be transmitted across generations in different species, providing new insights into the transmission of psychiatric-related information.

Long noncoding RNA HOTAIR polymorphisms and susceptibility to bipolar disorder: a preliminary case-control study

Saman Sargazi et al.

Summary: Recent studies have found that variations in the HOX Transcript Antisense Intergenic RNA (HOTAIR) gene are associated with the risk of bipolar disorder (BD) and its clinical subtypes. The findings suggest an interactive effect of HOTAIR polymorphisms in the development of BD and its subtypes.

Systemic inflammation and grey matter volume in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder: Moderation by childhood trauma severity

Yann Quide et al.

Summary: Elevated levels of systemic inflammation are consistently reported in both schizophrenia and bipolar-I disorder, and are associated with childhood trauma exposure. Systemic inflammation may be associated with grey matter changes in individuals with psychosis, and these relationships may be partially and differentially moderated by childhood trauma exposure according to diagnosis.

Genome-wide study of copy number variation implicates multiple novel loci for schizophrenia risk in Han Chinese family trios

Xi Wu et al.

Summary: The study found that patients with schizophrenia in Chinese families carried more duplications compared to healthy family members and controls, and identified new CNV loci associated with schizophrenia. Two genes within these CNVs showed significant relevance to schizophrenia, supporting the role of CNVs in schizophrenia etiology and providing new insights into the pathogenesis of schizophrenia.

Investigation of inflammation related gene polymorphism of the mannose-binding lectin 2 in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder

Hasan M. Aytac et al.

Summary: The study revealed an association between MBL2 gene polymorphism and clinical features in patients with SCZ or BD, with higher percentages of heterozygous genotypes in the control group compared to patients. Additionally, a favorable treatment response was linked to a higher proportion of heterozygous genotypes in patients with SCZ or BD.
