Xenogeneic nucleoid-associated EnrR thwarts H-NS silencing of bacterial virulence with unique DNA binding

Ruiqing Ma et al.

Summary: The xenogeneic nucleoid-associated protein EnrR plays a crucial role in the expression of the T3/T6SS in bacteria. It competes with H-NS to bind the esrB promoter, thereby promoting T3/T6SS expression. EnrR also globally modulates the expression of approximately 363 genes and is involved in various cellular processes. The crystal structures of EnrR in complex with AT-rich DNA reveal a novel DNA-binding mode.

Alternative DNA Structures In Vivo: Molecular Evidence and Remaining Questions

Lucie Poggi et al.

Summary: Duplex DNA usually forms a right-handed double helix, but alternative structures such as G-quadruplexes and cruciform structures may also exist. Many of these structures are associated with human pathologies, highlighting the importance of understanding their formation and effects on genetic stability.

H-NS and ToxT Inversely Control Cholera Toxin Production by Binding to Overlapping DNA Sequences

Jennifer B. Stone et al.

Summary: Vibrio cholerae infects human hosts through contaminated food or water, causing severe cholera with watery diarrhea. The production of cholera toxin is directly responsible for the symptoms. ToxT is a key protein that binds to virulence gene promoters and activates their transcription.
