The epithermal neutron activation analysis of mineral ores driven by an electron linear accelerator-based photoneutron source

Tongyuan Cui et al.

Summary: In this study, a method using delayed gamma rays from neutron activation is introduced for analyzing concentrations of valuable elements in mineral ores. With the use of an e-LINAC driven photoneutron source and a high-purity germanium detector, this method fulfills the requirements for analysis of gold ores, such as low detection limit, high precision, and high assay speed.

Instrumental Neutron Activation Analysis of Chang'E-5 Lunar Regolith Samples

Yonggang Yao et al.

Summary: The nondestructive analysis of the Chang'E-5 lunar samples using instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) revealed significant differences in the composition of major, minor, and trace elements compared to Earth and Apollo lunar samples. The rare earth element (REE) pattern, as well as interesting element correlations, provide valuable insights into the formation and evolution of the Moon.

Late Pleistocene pottery production and exchange: Provenance studies of hunter-gatherer wares from southern Kyushu, Japan by neutron activation analysis

Fumie Iizuka et al.

Summary: Late Pleistocene hunter-gatherers in East Asia adopted pottery, but problematic regional geochronology has hindered the understanding of circulation, mobility, and exchange. This study utilized neutron activation analysis to analyze pottery samples from the Sankauyama I site in southern Japan. The results suggest that pottery was mainly produced on site, but there were also long-distance transportation of vessels from other islands. The shift from high mobility to sedentary lifestyle during the Incipient Jomon period led to pottery production and occasional long-distance exchange, possibly involving ocean crossing, as a risk-buffering strategy in the context of rising sea levels and isolation of Tanegashima.
