Detectors and Cultural Heritage: The INFN-CHNet Experience

Lorenzo Giuntini et al.

Summary: Detectors play a key role in the scientific approach to cultural heritage for diagnostics and conservation. The Italian National Institute of Nuclear Physics develops and applies new instrumentation for this purpose. Both traditional state-of-the-art and highly innovative detection setups are optimized for spectrometric techniques, addressing existing and future challenges in the field.

Neutron-based techniques for archaeometry: characterization of a Sardinian boat model

A. Depalmas et al.

Summary: Sardinian metallurgy produced samples of high artistic and historical value, with ship models being rare and unmatched examples of mastery. The study analyzed a bronze ship model found near Nuraghe Colovros in north-east Sardinia using neutron imaging and diffraction experiments. The outcome revealed a unique approach to manufacturing the boat model.
