Summary: The feasibility of measuring spin polarization lifetime in magnetic fusion relevant conditions in the DIII-D tokamak is assessed by studying relative changes in charged fusion product (CFP) loss measurements. Two realistic plasma scenarios are studied: one with vector-polarized 3He and D pellets injected into a hot hydrogen plasma to produce thermonuclear reactions, and another with a tensor-polarized deuterium pellet injected into an L-mode hydrogen background plasma with unpolarized 3He neutral beam injection. The measurements show substantial sensitivity to polarization, making polarization lifetime measurements feasible.

Macroscopic production of spin-polarised hydrogen atoms from the IR-excitation and photodissociation of molecular beams

C. S. Kannis et al.

Summary: The article describes methods for producing spin-polarised H and D atoms through IR excitation and photodissociation of molecular beams of HBr, HI, and NH3 isotopes, with partial hyperfine resolution. It discusses the potential to approach IR-laser production rates of 10^(21) photons per second, and how this may surpass conventional methods with rates around 10^(17) per second.

Direct measurement of the 3He+ magnetic moments

A. Schneider et al.

Summary: Helium-3 has become a significant candidate for research in various fields. In this study, the nuclear magnetic moment and hyperfine structure of He-3(+) were directly measured, providing a direct calibration for He-3 NMR probes and improving the precision of magnetometry by one order of magnitude. The measured values also enabled the determination of the Zemach radius with higher precision compared to previous results.

Macroscopic production of highly nuclear-spin-polarized molecules from IR-excitation and photodissociation of molecular beams

C. S. Kannis et al.

Summary: The article proposes a method for producing spin-polarized molecular photofragments through IR excitation and photodissociation of molecular beams to achieve the production of spin-polarized molecules. This process is crucial for enhancing NMR signal and for the needs of a nuclear fusion reactor.

Study of 2H(d, p)3H and 2H(d, n)3He Nuclear Reactions with Polarized Deuteron Beams. PolFusion Experiment

A. Andreyanov et al.

Summary: The PolFusion experiment, conducted in collaboration with research institutions in Russia, Germany, and Italy, aims to study H-2(d, n)He-3 and H-2(d, p)H-3 reactions at low energies up to 100 keV. Differential cross sections and spin-correlation coefficients will be measured for various beam and target polarizations to understand the fusion process. The experiment also reviews theoretical models and discusses mathematical calculations for processing experimental data.

Radially resolved active charge exchange measurements of the hydrogenic isotope fraction on DIII-D

S. R. Haskey et al.

Summary: Radially resolved hydrogenic isotope fraction measurement capabilities have been developed for DIII-D using the main-ion charge exchange recombination (MICER) spectroscopy system in preparation for mixed hydrogen and deuterium experiments. In plasma parameters, the D alpha emission is 20%-30% brighter than H alpha due to differences in rate coefficients associated with the different ion thermal velocities for the same temperature. Despite these differences, the absolute error when estimating the hydrogen isotope fraction by using the H alpha radiance fraction is typically less than 5%.

CODATA recommended values of the fundamental physical constants: 2018

Eite Tiesinga et al.

Summary: The self-consistent values of physics and chemistry constants recommended by CODATA for 2018 are reported, with discussions on major improvements and inconsistencies. Many constants have reduced uncertainties or exact values due to the transition to the revised SI. However, inconsistencies remain for the gravitational constant and the muon magnetic-moment anomaly.
