Contribution of the histone variant H2A.Z to expression of responsive genes in plants

Jiaxin Long et al.

Summary: The enrichment of H2A.Z in plant chromatin is involved in dynamic gene expression, especially in response to differentiation and environmental changes. Recent research has revealed the mechanism of how plants achieve dynamic changes in H2A.Z enrichment and identified additional chromatin pathways related to transcriptional properties of H2A.Z-enriched chromatin.

Histone Variants in the Specialization of Plant Chromatin

Maryam Foroozani et al.

Summary: This review discusses the importance of nucleosome composition and variants in plants, as well as their roles in plant development and stress responses. Nucleosome assembly is crucial during DNA replication, while histone variants can impart unique properties onto nucleosomes, influencing transcriptional regulation and other nuclear processes in plants.

Chromatin-remodeling complexes: Conserved and plant-specific subunits in Arabidopsis

Ji-Yun Shang et al.

Summary: Adenosine triphosphate-dependent chromatin remodeling complexes play a crucial role in transcription, DNA replication, and genome stability regulation in eukaryotes. However, the study of chromatin remodeling complexes in plants lags behind yeast and animals. Recent research has identified and characterized the composition and function of chromatin remodeling enzymes in Arabidopsis, providing a foundation for further investigation into the molecular mechanisms.

The Arabidopsis DREAM complex antagonizes WDR5A to modulate histone H3K4me2/3 deposition for a subset of genome repression

Yuqiu Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a plant-specific component of the DREAM complex called BTE1 was identified. It was found that the DREAM complex containing BTE1 acts against the COMPASS-like complex to repress transcription and occupancy of H3K4me3 at target genes. BTE1 was shown to interact with WDR5A, inhibiting its chromatin binding and transcription elongation on DREAM target genes.

Feedback regulation of auxin signaling through the transcription of H2A.Z and deposition of H2A.Z to SMALL AUXIN UP RNAs in Arabidopsis

Aiqing Sun et al.

Summary: This study reveals the involvement of the histone variant H2A.Z in the regulation of plant growth through auxin signaling. It shows that auxin promotes the eviction of H2A.Z from auxin-responsive genes, activating their transcription and influencing plant growth.

The histone variant H2A.W and linker histone H1 co-regulate heterochromatin accessibility and DNA methylation

Pierre Bourguet et al.

Summary: The study shows that H2A.W antagonizes H1 deposition in heterochromatin, helps maintain heterochromatin accessibility and DNA methylation levels, and co-regulates heterochromatic features with H1. The null mutant created by CRISPR reveals the importance of H2A.W in regulating heterochromatin accessibility.

A histone H3K4me1-specific binding protein is required for siRNA accumulation and DNA methylation at a subset of loci targeted by RNA-directed DNA methylation

Qingfeng Niu et al.

Summary: The study identified and characterized a new RdDM factor, RDM15, which plays a role in RdDM-dependent DNA methylation and siRNA accumulation by interacting with the Pol V subunit NRPE3B. Additionally, structural analysis of RDM15 revealed a unique mechanism for recognizing the H3K4me1 mark.
