Adjuvant stereotactic radiosurgery with or without postoperative fractionated radiation therapy in adults with skull base chordomas: a systematic review

Othman Bin-Alamer et al.

Summary: This retrospective study aimed to compare the survival outcomes of patients with biopsy-proven skull base chordoma who underwent stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) with or without prior fractionated radiation therapy (RT). The systematic review of relevant articles revealed that tumor control and survival rates for SRS alone after chordoma surgery were comparable to those for SRS plus fractionated RT.

Stereotactic radiosurgery for intracranial chordomas: an international multiinstitutional study

Stylianos Pikis et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the safety and efficacy of stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) in the management of intracranial chordomas. The results showed that SRS is a relatively safe and effective adjuvant treatment option, with the best outcomes observed in young patients without significant neurological deficits.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed the recurrence/progression and salvage treatment outcomes of skull base chordoma patients, finding that salvage surgery or stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) in recurrent patients led to higher survival rates and good treatment outcomes.

Gamma Knife Stereotactic Radiosurgery for the treatment of chordomas and chondrosarcomas

Julian Cahill et al.

Summary: This study reviewed patients with chordomas and chondrosarcomas treated with Gamma Knife Stereotactic Radiosurgery at Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield, UK from 1985 to 2018. It found that early intervention for tumors with volumes less than 7 cm(3) resulted in the best long-term survival rates.

Midterm prognosis and surgical implication for clival chordomas after extended transsphenoidal tumor removal and gamma knife radiosurgery

Yoshikazu Ogawa et al.

Summary: The study suggests the importance of early detection and treatment, and surgery may enable better conditions for sufficient GK doses. Being male, receiving > 15 Gy of 50% isodose by GK, and screening brain examinations as prophylactic medicine were significant favorable prognostic factors.
