The Cytoskeletal Elements MAP2 and NF-L Show Substantial Alterations in Different Stroke Models While Elevated Serum Levels Highlight Especially MAP2 as a Sensitive Biomarker in Stroke Patients

Bianca Mages et al.

Summary: In the setting of ischemic stroke, changes in the neuronal cytoskeleton involving NF-L and MAP2 were investigated. MAP2-related immunofluorescence decreased in ischemic areas, while NF-L degradation products increased. Additionally, stroke patients showed significantly elevated serum levels of MAP2, with levels increasing with infarct size, whereas NF-L levels did not significantly differ.
