Ultrasound-Guided Nerve Hydrodissection With 5% Dextrose 4 Weeks After Steroid Injection in Treatment of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: A Retrospective Study

Juan-juan He et al.

Summary: This study showed that ultrasound-guided nerve hydrodissection (HD) with 5% dextrose (D5W) as add-on therapy after corticosteroid injection was effective and safe for carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). The combination therapy was more beneficial in improving symptoms and function at 8- and 12-week follow-up compared to corticosteroid monotherapy.

Refining the rat sciatic nerve block: a novel ultrasound-guided technique

Scott Hughey et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the use of ultrasound-guided sciatic nerve block in a cadaveric murine model, showing that the staining with methylene blue was accurate in all injections. This highly accurate method may present a significant improvement for future translational studies.

UNC5B Overexpression Alleviates Peripheral Neuropathic Pain by Stimulating Netrin-1-Dependent Autophagic Flux in Schwann Cells

Pei-yao Xiao et al.

Summary: The study reveals that UNC5B plays an important role in neuropathic pain and protects myelin by promoting autophagy. Its ligand, netrin-1, regulates the autophagy pathway by modulating the phosphorylation of AMPK and ULK1 and affects the occurrence of pain.

Normalization of Neuroinflammation: A New Strategy for Treatment of Persistent Pain and Memory/Emotional Deficits in Chronic Pain

Xian-Guo Liu

Summary: Chronic pain affects around 1/3 of the world population and is often accompanied by memory deficits and mood depression. Abnormal expression of ion channels and pathological synaptic plasticity have been found to be underlying factors for persistent pain. Neuroinflammation, characterized by overproduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines and glial activation, plays a role in chronic pain and memory/emotional deficits. Regulation of neuroinflammation and normalization of intracellular magnesium levels may be potential treatment strategies for neuronal disorders.

Ultrasound-guided carpal tunnel injections

Tilen Tumpaj et al.

Summary: Although consensus has not been reached on the protocol for US-guided carpal tunnel injections, the ulnar approach with single large-volume injections and dextrose as the first-line medication option may be the optimal choice. The steps presented in this review for US-guided carpal tunnel injections could serve as a guideline for future studies.

Botulinum Neurotoxins in Central Nervous System: An Overview from Animal Models to Human Therapy

Siro Luvisetto

Summary: Botulinum neurotoxins are powerful inhibitors of synaptic vesicle fusion and neurotransmitter release, with effects not only at the peripheral neuromuscular junction but also potentially on the central nervous system. They are highly effective in treating muscle hyperactivity disorders and may have therapeutic applications for conditions of the CNS.
