Role of β1-integrin in promoting cell motility and tamoxifen resistance of human breast cancer MCF-7 cells

Song Hu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the genomic changes in acquired tamoxifen-resistant breast cancer cell lines and found alterations in gene expressions, with ITGB1 potentially contributing to tamoxifen resistance via the beta 1-integrin signaling pathway. ITGB1 may serve as a potential target for improving anti-hormone therapy response in ER(+) breast cancer patients.

Cross-Resistance Among Sequential Cancer Therapeutics: An Emerging Issue

Rossella Loria et al.

Summary: Over the past two decades, the number of approved targeted drugs for cancer treatment has significantly increased, leading to reduced toxicity and improved clinical outcomes compared to traditional chemotherapeutic drugs. Currently, targeted therapies and other systemic anti-cancer therapies are used alone or in combination in different settings. However, the sequential use of different anti-cancer therapies may result in cross-resistance, posing a new challenge. In this review, cross-resistance events and the molecular mechanisms involved are summarized, and the current challenges and perspectives for overcoming cross-resistance and moving towards personalized approaches are discussed.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Glucosamine attenuates drug resistance in Mitoxantrone-resistance breast cancer cells

Fatemeh Valinezhad Sani et al.

Summary: The study found that glucosamine has inhibitory effects on the proliferation of human breast cancer cells. In the presence of GlcN, the IC50 values of MCF-7/MX cells to mitoxantrone were significantly reduced. Furthermore, GlcN decreased the expression of BCRP mRNA without affecting EMT-related markers in breast cancer cells.
