Common and stimulus-type-specific brain representations of negative affect

Marta Ceko et al.

Summary: This study combines functional magnetic resonance imaging and predictive modeling to investigate the representations of generalized and stimulus-type-specific negative affect in the brain. The results show that generalized negative affect is encoded in distributed brain regions, while stimulus-type-specific negative affect is encoded in early sensory pathways. Both types of representations are important for predicting subjective experience.

Individual variability in brain representations of pain

Lada Kohoutova et al.

Summary: The study identifies brain regions with consistent and variable representations of pain across individuals and explores the importance of individual variability in pain processing. The findings can contribute to personalized assessment and treatment of pain.

A neuroimaging biomarker for sustained experimental and clinical pain

Jae-Joong Lee et al.

Summary: This study identified a brain biomarker for sustained pain, which showed high sensitivity and specificity to tonic pain and clinical pain. The functional magnetic resonance imaging connectivity pattern of tonic experimental orofacial pain can be used as a quantitative and unbiased biomarker of clinical pain.
