Isolation, bonding and reactivity of a monomeric stibine oxide

John S. Wenger et al.

Summary: In contrast to phosphine oxides and arsine oxides, which are stable monomers, stibine oxides are generally polymeric and their properties remain unexplored. In this study, we report the isolation of a monomeric stibine oxide and investigate its bond nature. Furthermore, we demonstrate the diverse reactivity of the stiboryl group, including acting as a Bronsted base, hydrogen-bond acceptor, transition-metal ligand, and participating in addition, exchange, and atom transfer reactions, which differ from its lighter congeners, phosphine oxides and arsine oxides.

Acid-Base Free Main Group Carbonyl Analogues

Ying Kai Loh et al.

Summary: Main group carbonyl analogues derived from p-block elements have long been considered elusive. The recent isolation of acid-base free main group carbonyl analogues marked a new era, offering exciting new chemistry opportunities with their unperturbed nature. The emerging reactivity profiles of these derivatives highlight potential crossover reactivity with carbon and transition metal oxo species.

Unsupported monomeric stibine oxides (R3SbO) remain undiscovered

Summary: Through X-ray crystallographic, computational, and spectroscopic data, it has been concluded that previously proposed H-bonded stibine oxide adducts are actually hydroxystibonium salts.
