Simultaneous determination of 11 alkaloids in rat plasma by LC-ESI-MS/MS and a pharmacokinetic study after oral administration of total alkaloids extracted from Nauclea officinalis

Guanghou Wang et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the phytochemical profile of alkaloids in N. officinalis total alkaloids and determine their pharmacokinetic behaviors. The results showed that 55 alkaloids were identified in N. officinalis total alkaloids, with 25 alkaloids absorbed by rats after oral administration. The established LC-ESI-MS/MS method was successfully applied for the simultaneous determination of major active alkaloids in rat plasma, providing valuable insights for pre-clinical and clinical investigations.

Plant-Based Indole Alkaloids: A Comprehensive Overview from a Pharmacological Perspective

Faisal Omar et al.

Summary: Plant-based indole alkaloids have diverse pharmacological activities, with some compounds showing strong effects such as anticancer, antibacterial, and antiviral properties. However, there is a range of activity levels among the reviewed compounds, from potent to mild-to-moderate. Pharmacokinetic profiles of certain compounds were also evaluated for their promising pharmacological activity.

Comparative analysis of bioactive constituents and pharmacological: Activities from different parts of Nauclea officinalis

Mingyan Zhou et al.

Summary: The stems of Nauclea officinalis are used as a crude drug in China, leading to the abandonment of other parts of the plant. A reliable method using LC-MS/MS was established to determine the distribution and content of constituents in different organs, along with evaluation of pharmacological activities for comparative analysis. The results showed higher content of active components in other organs and better pharmacological effects in branches and leaves of N. officinalis.
