Forensic analysis and numerical simulation of a catastrophic landslide of dissolved and fractured rock slope subject to underground mining

Xiaoming Wang et al.

Summary: Based on field geological survey and UAV photography, this study investigates the causes, mechanisms, and characteristics of a catastrophic landslide of dissolved and fractured rock slope in Southwestern China. The study develops a DEM model considering karst existence to simulate the deformation and failure evolution of the rock slope. The kinematic characteristics of mobile collapse debris flow are analyzed, and the numerical simulation results are validated by laboratory physical model test.

Soil loss and erosion potential estimation of Jhimruk watershed, Nepal

Parbati Pandey et al.

Summary: Soil erosion has significant impacts on land productivity, water resources, and the entire watershed. In an agrarian region like Jhimruk, known as the rice bowl of Nepal, the loss of top soil can have severe consequences for land productivity. Therefore, it is important to identify areas at risk of degradation and assess erosion potential to plan effective mitigation measures. This study used the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE) model in a Geographic Information System (GIS) to estimate soil loss in the Jhimruk watershed, Lumbini Province, Nepal.

Triggering factors and threshold analysis of baishuihe landslide based on the data mining methods

Fasheng Miao et al.

Summary: The study proposed a data mining method to analyze monitoring data of the Baishuihe Landslide, revealing that monthly cumulative rainfall is a key factor in controlling landslide deformation. Additionally, a decision tree model was established for threshold analysis of hydrologic triggering factors.

Landslide mitigation strategies in southeast Bangladesh: Lessons learned from the institutional responses

Neegar Sultana et al.

Summary: This study explores how local-level institutions in southeast Bangladesh mitigate landslide hazards in the absence of landslide-specific disaster management policy. It reveals that structural measures are insufficient due to financial constraints, while non-structural measures need special attention. The findings suggest the importance of considering ethnic culture and regional factors in resettlement policies and propose institution-based solutions for sustainable hill management.
