Enhanced photoelectrochemical water splitting and photocatalytic degradation performance of visible light active ZnIn2S4/PANI nanocomposite

Mohit Khosya et al.

Summary: In this study, zinc indium sulfide coupled polyaniline (ZnIn2S4/PANI) nanocomposites were synthesized using a chemisorption method. The nanocomposites exhibited significant enhancement in photo-catalytic and photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting activity under visible light illumination. The improvement in photodegradation and PEC water splitting activity is attributed to extended visible light absorption, synergistic effect of PANI, and the formation of a type-II heterojunction, which facilitates charge separation and faster transfer efficiency of photogenerated charge carriers.

The photocatalytic process in the treatment of polluted water

Marwah A. Al-Nuaim et al.

Summary: Wastewater treatment using photocatalysis has become a popular research topic due to its potential in degrading organic pollutants. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the advancements in photocatalytic processes for highly polluted industrial wastewater treatment. The study shows that TiO2-based photocatalysts are highly effective in removing organic pollutants compared to other wastewater treatment technologies. The electrical structure of the semiconductor and the morphology of the photocatalyst play important roles in its mechanism. Scaling up photoreactors can significantly help in reducing the impact of organic pollutants in wastewater.

Solid-state photocatalysis for plastics abatement: A review

Deyler Castilla-Caballero et al.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a significant increase in plastic waste from single-use masks and other personal protective equipment (PPE). This review highlights the use of solid-state photocatalysis as an efficient technology to combat plastic pollution. Despite fewer publications in this field compared to aqueous and/or gaseous phase photocatalysis, the review provides an in-depth analysis of the incorporation of photocatalyst into plastic matrices and the evaluation of its effectiveness using various methods. The aim is to raise awareness and promote further research in this innovative area.

Photocatalytic degradation of malachite green dye using nitrogen/sodium/iron-TiO2 nanocatalysts

A. T. Amigun et al.

Summary: Enhanced visible light-responsive TiO2 modified with nitrogen, sodium, and iron was synthesized using a green synthesis and wet impregnation method. The nanocatalysts were characterized and their photocatalytic activity for dye degradation was investigated. The interaction between reaction time, catalyst dosage, and dye solution pH was evaluated using response surface methodology. The results showed that the tri-doped TiO2 nanocatalysts had higher surface areas and achieved maximum dye degradation under optimal conditions. The nanocatalysts exhibited good photocatalytic activity and could be reused multiple times.
