Mid- and far-infrared localized surface plasmon resonances in chalcogen-hyperdoped silicon

Mao Wang et al.

Summary: The occurrence of mid-infrared localized surface plasmon resonances (LSPR) in thin Si films hyperdoped with tellurium (Te) is demonstrated in this study. By fabricating two-dimensional arrays of micrometer-sized antennas in a Te-hyperdoped Si chip, the mid-infrared LSPR can be further enhanced and extended to the far-infrared range. This finding opens up the possibility of integrating plasmonic sensors with the on-chip CMOS platform, greatly advancing the mass manufacturing potential of high-performance plasmonic sensing systems.

Understanding the complementarities of surface-enhanced infrared and Raman spectroscopies in CO adsorption and electrochemical reduction

Xiaoxia Chang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that surface enhanced infrared and Raman spectroscopies provide similar data on strongly binding surfaces, but probe different subpopulations of adsorbates on weakly adsorbing surfaces. The lack of scaling between derivatives of the dipole moment and the polarizability explains the different responses of infrared and Raman spectroscopies. The competitive adsorption of water on weak binding metals might contribute to the differences in infrared and Raman responses among metal surfaces. It is also found that only copper sites capable of adsorbing carbon monoxide in an atop configuration visible to surface enhanced infrared spectroscopy are active in the electrochemical carbon monoxide reduction reaction.

Ultra-sensitive and selective 2D hybrid highly doped semiconductor-graphene biosensor based on SPR and SEIRA effects in the wide range of infrared spectral

Shabnam Andalibi Miandoab et al.

Summary: Simultaneous amplification of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and surface enhanced infrared absorption (SEIRA) spectroscopy can effectively improve the sensitivity of biosensors in a wide range of wavelengths. The proposed hybrid high doped semiconductor-graphene plasmonic biosensor can increase the sensitivity of all-semiconductor biosensors in the presence of small amounts of biomolecules by changing the structure and selecting the appropriate fermi level for graphene nanostructures. Its quality and Figure of merit (FOM) have also been greatly improved. This type of biosensor combines the advantages of all-graphene and all-semiconductor biosensors, providing a starting point for highly sensitive and tunable biosensors for specific biomolecules.

Combined Visible Plasmons of Ag Nanoparticles and Infrared Plasmons of Graphene Nanoribbons for High-Performance Surface-Enhanced Raman and Infrared Spectroscopies

Jinpeng Nong et al.

Summary: Ag nanoparticles modified graphene nanoribbons can serve as high-performance shared substrates for surface-enhanced Raman and infrared absorption spectroscopy. By optimizing the dimension of Ag NPs, SERS enhancement factors at the order of 10^5 can be achieved, comparable with or even larger than that of the reported shared substrates. Meanwhile, various polyethylene oxide vibrational modes can be recognized with maximum SEIRAS amplification up to 170 times, one order larger than that of the reported graphene plasmonic infrared sensors. Such plasmonic nanosensor exhibits promising potential for biosensing applications on an integrated lab-on-a-chip strategy.
