Overexpression of P-glycoprotein, MRP2, and CYP3A4 impairs intestinal absorption of octreotide in rats with portal hypertension

Xiaoyu Sun et al.

Summary: The study found that P-gp and MRP2 play a major role in controlling intestinal OCT absorption in patients with cirrhosis, while CYP3A4 also influences absorption. Upregulation of these transporters in the intestine may lead to impaired OCT absorption in patients with portal hypertension.

Xanthones as P-glycoprotein modulators and their impact on drug bioavailability

Vera Silva et al.

Summary: P-glycoprotein (P-gp) is an important efflux pump that can be modulated by different molecules, including xanthone derivatives, to overcome multidrug resistance or serve as an antidotal strategy in intoxication scenarios. Xanthones have the ability to modulate P-gp expression and activity, making them a promising source of new derivatives with therapeutic potential. Further research is needed to explore the mechanisms behind xanthones-mediated P-gp modulation and their specific characteristics as potent P-gp inhibitors or inducers/activators.

Comprehensive analysis of liposome formulation parameters and their influence on encapsulation, stability and drug release in glibenclamide liposomes

Samuel Maritim et al.

Summary: Understanding the factors that influence liposome characteristics such as size, loading efficiency, stability, and drug release can help in the rational design of liposomes for specific pharmacokinetic and biodistribution requirements. This study investigated the effects of formulation methods and parameters on encapsulation efficiency, liposome characteristics, and drug release of PEGylated liposomes containing BIIB093. Various formulation parameters, including lipid chain length, unsaturation, phase transition temperature, and cholesterol content, were found to impact drug loading, release rate, and stability of the liposomes. Encapsulating the drug in the liposome core enabled sustained drug release.

Alveolar progenitor cells and the origin of lung cancer

J. Sainz de Aja et al.

Summary: This article highlights the alveolar type 2 (AT2) cells as the origin of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) and discusses the oncogenes associated with LUAD and other lung cancers in detail. Further exploration of AT2 biology and understanding the precursors of LUAD and molecular changes during its progression aim to achieve earlier detection and better molecular targeting treatments for the disease.

Pegylated liposomal doxorubicin in patients with epithelial ovarian cancer

Zhen Yuan et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of PLD in treating platinum-resistant and platinum-refractory relapse in patients with epithelial ovarian, fallopian tube, and peritoneal cancer. The results showed that PLD was associated with satisfactory efficacy, low frequency of adverse events, and high patient quality of life, with low baseline CA125 levels and a reduction in CA125 after the first cycle predicting satisfactory efficacy.

Formation and properties of liposome-stabilized all-aqueous emulsions based on PEG/dextran, PEG/Ficoll, and PEG/sulfate aqueous biphasic systems

Andrew T. Rowland et al.

Summary: Changing the aqueous two-phase system can impact droplet uniformity and solute partitioning, while comparing liposomes formed by extrusion with those formed by vortexing reveals similar effectiveness in creating functional microreactors. This study expands the compositions possible for liposome-stabilized, all-aqueous emulsion droplet bioreactors, providing cost and time-saving alternatives for production.
