Hierarchically porous membranes with synergistic Co clusters and N active sites enabled High-Efficient Li-ion transporting and redox reaction activity in Li-S batteries

Jiao Guo et al.

Summary: In this study, a sandwich-structured interlayer with a membrane supporting layer and two-sided synergistic Co/N-codoped interfaces was proposed to address the challenges of sluggish redox kinetics, poor Li+ conductivity, and large volume change in lithium-sulfur batteries. The interlayer design included a hierarchically porous carbon nanotube core with a N-doped carbon coating shell, providing improved Li+ and electron conductivity as well as space for polysulfide anchoring and conversion. The Co/N-codoped interfaces exhibited strong adsorption and high catalytic activity, contributing to the mitigation of the shuttle effect and reduction of energy barriers. The proposed strategy holds significant guiding significance for the design of high-performance Li-S batteries.

Spinel-type bimetal sulfides derived from Prussian blue analogues as efficient polysulfides mediators for lithium-sulfur batteries

Ruijian Li et al.

Summary: Lithium-sulfur batteries have attracted increasing attention for their high energy density in advanced energy storage systems. However, their practical application is hindered by poor cycling stability due to the inherent polysulfide shuttle. Recent efforts have focused on using polar hosts to interact with polysulfide intermediates, but the low electrical conductivity of these hosts limits specific capacity. A new spinel-type bimetal sulfide NiCo2S4 has been reported as a novel host for polysulfide, enabling high-performance sulfur cathodes with improved efficiency and minimal capacity decay.
