Review: Quantum Dot Light-Emitting Diodes

Eunjoo Jang et al.

Summary: Quantum dot light-emitting diodes (QD-LEDs) show great potential as self-emissive displays with high efficiency and tunability. They can be applied in various fields, including wide color gamut displays, augmented/virtual reality displays, wearable/flexible displays, automotive displays, and transparent displays. Efforts have been made to improve the efficiency and lifetime of QD-LEDs through optimizing the QD structures and charge balance in charge transport layers. Longevity and inkjet-printing fabrication are currently being tested for future commercialization. This review summarizes the progress of QD-LED development, discusses their potential compared to other displays, and investigates critical elements and degradation mechanisms.

Efficient Band-Edge Emission from Indirect Bandgap Semiconductor Quantum Dots upon Shell Engineering

Jingwen Zhai et al.

Summary: In this study, it is theoretically demonstrated that efficient band-edge emission can be achieved in colloidal quantum dots (QDs) of groups III-V by introducing a capping shell in the core/shell architecture. The emission edge is dominated by low intensity exciton states before a critical tensile strain is reached, and by high-intensity bright exciton states after crossing the critical strain. This work provides a novel strategy for realizing efficient band-edge emission of indirect semiconductor QDs through shell engineering, which can be implemented using the well-established colloidal QD synthesis technique.

ZnF2-Assisted Synthesis of Highly Luminescent InP/ZnSe/ZnS Quantum Dots for Efficient and Stable Electroluminescence

Haiyang Li et al.

Summary: A new method using inorganic salt ZnF2 instead of hydrofluoric acid to synthesize InP/ZnSe/ZnS core/shell/shell quantum dots is proposed in this study. The resulting quantum dots show higher photoluminescence efficiency and thermal stability, and can achieve high brightness emission in large sizes.

Size Engineering of Trap Effects in Oxidized and Hydroxylated ZnSe Quantum Dots

Jingjing Min et al.

Summary: This study reveals the potential oxidization or hydroxylation on the surface of ZnSe quantum dots (QDs) under oxygen exposure, leading to the existence of surface-related dark exciton states at the emission edge. However, beyond a critical diameter, the effects of these trap states are minimized and the emission edge is dominated by bright exciton states.
